If we keep losing next year, they'll lose more in donations and ticket sales than it costs to buy him out.

I don't think that's true. If he's fired after this season his buyout is 1.2 million. I think we can all agree that's not going to happen. It looks like it drops 300K every season through 2021 when his contract expires. Under a million I think we can afford and at some point won't be able to afford not to.

Which buyout do you think ODU can afford?

If we felt it was necessary any of them. He won't be gone after this year and probably next. But if you're saying that we'd let him go three 2 win seasons and still not can him over $300K then you're crazy. I'm sure there's other things the admin would rather spend the money on but they could come up with it.

The buyout is one thing....You're forgetting about having to pay a good coach to replace him and that guy hiring the staff he wants.

I don't think we'll increase the pay for whoever comes in so that amount is already in the budget. The buyout is a one time payment.

If we aren't going to increase the pay, then who do you think we are going to get that will turn this thing around? I am not really arguing with you, I am playing the other side and want to hear suggestions. For the record, I don't think Bobby can coach at this level, but we have to make ends meet and have a legitimate replacement before I can say we have to fire him.

Liberty paid us $1.32 million to play in Lynchburg this year. It seems like that would cover a decent chunk of a buyout for Bobby and his assistants that have multi-year deals once that check comes in.

That's an excellent point. Either a young assistant that wants to prove they can take on a HC position or a proven FCS HC that wants to move up the ladder. I don't know what the answer is but at some point you've got to cut losses.

thats a good point. We are going to need close to $1 million to get a true FBS guy. That would likely get us a coach that can complete with the likes of CUSA east.

Odu fans and their Jeff jones/Bobby wilder obsessions are hilarious.

No assistant on earth is capable of replacing either one for the same amount they are currently making or even less and having more success.

Got it. Lol.

Next year we will be younger, less experienced, and likely less talented. It will show if the coach's are worth their hire or if the slide continues.

Perhaps some if not most of this is just stubbornness on Bobby's part.

I find it curious that, despite numerous changes in coordinators and position coaches, our defense has many, if not most of the same shortcomings as it has always had; despite substantially better talent.

In spite of some posters on here that believe the coaches have some secret or higher insight that prompts their decisions, football is NOT rocket science.
Most people who have played at any level, or just those experienced fans that are students of the game, can make valid assessments.

On offense, some of Bobby's decisions have been almost inexplicable, starting with the SB experiment
I am almost certain that Brian Scott did not make the Shuler Bentley decision.
My conversations with him were such that his passion for for David Washington at QB was absolute.
Additionally, even in that Spring game, Colin McElroy looked much better than SB.

The SW experiment was even more bizarre, as in the Spring Drayton Arnold looked by far the best, with BL next, and SW a shaky distant third.
Numerous sources had SW behind even Fitzgerald in the fall.

Except in the rarest of instances, you play like you practice. Again, this is not rocket science.

My gut tells me that these decisions, along with the repeated inexplicable game decisions (3rd down calls, fakes etc) are Bobby's alone.
I also would love to hear the rationale behind the dog house occupants Drayton Arnold and previously Colin McElroy.
Apparently Brian Scott had to strongly lobby Bobby to replace SW with BL for the VT game.

Bottom line; if logistics don't allow for the dismissal of BW, then BW needs to take a step back and let his coaches do their jobs, and if they cannot, instead of micro managing the deficiency, get coaches who can.

Multiple peolpe I talked to said that SW looked like the best QB by far as camp went on and into the later stages of the offseason.

I heard Arnold looked good over the summer but was not able to keep it up once the final stages Of camp Came around.

Ive never talked to anyone with access to the profram that felt Mcelroy was anything but a backup.

Just from what I hear. I didnt see any in person.

These were probably the same sources that told him Kah was a monster and Huett was the savior of Hampton Blvd.

From what I have heard, there are definitely some micro-managing issues. You have to trust your players.

The answer is no. Yes I am glad we beat VT but that win is almost useless when we can't beat any other team in the schedule.

I agree the answer is no. We had a chance to be somewhat relevant this year by building off of that win, but instead we squandered it and now it will be forgotten except for us fans. Unfortunate.
