So who coaches the team the rest of the way? Is there anyone on the staff that most people here even want to be back next season?

I am not sure who we want to coach the team rest of the way but does it matter for a team that is most likely gonna be 1-11 at best at the end of the season.

It does for keeping some of those players around. Unless we're advocating a total purge of the roster too? Because if you think things are depressing now with a head coach that in theory is fighting for his job, imagine how bad it's going to be with an interim who KNOWS he's done for at the final whistle of the Rice game, and so does everyone he's ostensibly coaching?

Any change in coaches is going to happen in the offseason, unless they plan to just forfeit the rest of the season.

That's a good point but i doubt most of them will stick around with a new coach around the corner anyway. If the trade off to watching more depressed and soulless FB is having a new HC and his staff coming on board and starting recruiting so we can at least start playing good FB in 2020 i, personally would do it. I don't care how ****** the interim coach is and how pathetic of a performance the players will put rest of the season. We were mercy ruled 80-20 and beaten to crap by Liberty and i am sure what ever miserable performance we put in the season will not be worse than those and even if they are does any one care since the season is essentially down the drain anyway. All that being said they will most likely do the hiring in the off season. The only advantage we get by hiring right away is the lead time since next year is essentially a rebuilding year that way we can give the new coach some buffer before we judge him in 2020.

I know you all have gotten attached to these guys, but what is the harm in doing a total purge (coaching staff, letting players transfer) for a team who is going to go 1-11?

Well worth it. GoFundMe anyone? I'll put up the first $100 for anyone who creates it.

Too soon. Maybe the VMI game. Though I expect he will be back for a final round next season.

RE: Fire Bobby Wilder Thread
I have never been a big "fire everybody" person but i have reached that point with this group. It's clear when you watch our games (and has been for a while) that our teams are never as well prepared as our opponents. We were not out talented by Charlotte but the difference in execution of the two teams was striking. Our receivers at least had defenders within 5 yards of them, we didn't consistently have gaping holes to run through and on offense they had an idea of how to attack whatever pathetic defense we tried to play. Certain coaches are able to make more out of a group of players than they should be capable of based on their individual talent levels. This group of coaches consistently underutilizes any talent that we can put on the field.

One thing that would come out of keeping these guys for Wood would be that he would stop hearing us complain about only building the new stadium with 22K seats. We'll soon be asking why they built it to hold more than 5K.

I alluded to this earlier. I simply can't understand how a team with almost all the same players goes from 5-7 to this? I really don't think our talent level is anywhere near as bad as the coaching level. Totally unprepared.
I really feel bad for the players and wouldn't blame any of them for leaving. They deserve better and this is their only chance to play college ball.
If Wilder had any courage he'd fall on the sword.

Did you see Charlotte's offense yesterday? Motion, misdirection, play-action, multiple sets including under center when the situation called for it.
That was a well put together offense, with arguably less talent than we have.

This most miserable part of this coaching staff is:

- On defense, every fan knows that we can't stop them on a 3rd and 14.

- On offense, every fan knows that we can't pick up a 3rd and 1.

Too soon, you have to kill this issue sooner than later. We are at a breaking point. Wood Selig needs to do something of the "Fire Wood Selig" chants will start coming his way.

Dollars and cents decision. Got to keep emotion out of it if you are Selig.
What costs more? a buy out now ( end of season, not today) or shrinking revenue from fewer donations, fewer tickets sold, less revenue from game day merchandise and concessions. All of which will continue to decline until BW is let go. I certainly am not privy to revenue figures, but I have to believe the program will lose it's ass if he's not fired.

If we have fewer tickets sold next season after the renovation, regardless of the coach and the play, we are in a heap of trouble. Because of the novelty of the stadium renovation, I doubt it will be a financial net positive getting rid of Bobby at this point. But this entire experiment is turning into a case of throwing good money after bad. A couple more seasons like this and we won't even be able to afford to keep Jeff Jones and it won't matter if we are playing in this stadium, the renovated stadium, or a 40,000 waterfront architectural marvel plated in gold.

RE: Fire Bobby Wilder Thread
I've been thinking about this over night and have a little more sympathy for Bobby Wilder today. He was hired for a job, and that job was to start a program and coach it to respectability at the 1AA level quickly. Bobby excelled at that job. He truly did a fantastic job. Then, based on decisions made by Wood and Broderick (good or bad, either way), Bobby got promoted to a job he is incapable of handling. He was asked by his bosses to take on more than he could do. Its not the job he applied for, and not the one he accepted. Ive been in that situation at work before. It can be a fun challenge, and you give your best possible effort. Sometimes it works, but sometimes its just above your skillset, and what you were hired to do. I think thats the case with Bobby. That doesn't mean he should be our coach, or he has the ability to win at the FBS level. But it does make me feel a little bad for him. He probably wishes we were still FCS where he was winning all the time. He probably knows thats where he belongs too. Should he be let go... yes. But maybe we should be nicer about it since he didnt ask for all this.

I bet we see at least a 20% drop in season tickets next season. The only reason it won't be 40%+ is because of the new stadium.

But Wilder has had 5 to 6 years to hire FBS coaches for his program. I bet if you were given a larger budget to work with you'd hire better employees.

I'm trying not to overreact to one bad season (I mean really bad, and one that we certainly didn't expect). The problem is that I don't see any way that we are better next year. I don't think that the program can suffer another losing season next year while building a new stadium. It may take years to recover.

However, I'd say we'll keep BW through next season (good or not). He's earned some capital by building the program and having success at both levels (though he's burning through that capital fast with every game we play in 2018). If he rights the ship and we're bowling in 2019, this season will be but an ugly memory.

Sad, but by the third quarter of game one, I had less enthusiasm over 2018 college football than a VCU fan.
