I think they bring a lot of positives but negatives as well

They obviously employ lots of people +
They usually provide great benefits +
They are strong, at least outwardly on diversity +

But

They are good at keeping competition out though lobbying and regulation support -
They sometimes support diversity over performance-
They tend to find the cheapest labor no matter the country and effect on America -

unless monopolistic, then yes.....

rural either takes care of it's own or humans move.....

urban requires such for sustaining and containment....

I've worked at two Fortune 500 companies and both treated me very well and positioned me for the success I am seeing in my current role at a boutique consulting firm.

One thing for sure, big corporations can be politically ruthless, internally. My wagon was hitched to two different leaders at my last job and when they both left unexpectedly, my days where numberbed.

Yes, but political hacks should not be allowed to introduce or vote on legislation that impacts anyone that has given them a penny. If someone grows their business into a large corporation through good practices and providing a product or service at a price people will pay, that is fantastic. There always needs to be the opportunity for unlimited competition, however. That is what we are doing poorly.

Corporate pattern.
New leader-lays off people to prove his cost cutting. Hires more of his "own people" than he laid off.
New leader leaves or gets fired and next new leader repeats the pattern.
