So would Texas A&M, Missouri, and LSU.

Any SEC team really, that is sick and tired of being oppressed by Alabama. Not talking about politics or bad behavior, anything like that. Talking about losing on the field over and over and over and over ..... it just gets old eventually. If you can't beat 'em, leave 'em.

But on a slightly more serious note .... how much has Arkansas won since since joining the SEC? Football field or basketball court. Seems to me that if they wanted a chance to win more games, they might consider the move.

And not like the Big 12 conf distribution is terrible, either.

It is a move that makes sense and is totally stupid at the same time.

And since this is all hypothetical anyway ....

We know the Big 8 schools are lock-step NO for Houston. Too scared of what pulling them up to P5 does for recruiting in Texas.

Adding Ark would push roughly halfway from OKC out towards Memphis. Does Memphis become a palatable compromise on #12?

SEC should take Texas and Oklahoma. ACC is pretty full to take members.

Didn't Arkansas try and join the Big 8 when looking to leave the SWC and was turned down? Imagine a Big XII that was Texas, A&M, Tech and Arkansas joining in the early 90's. Would the SEC add FSU along with USC to get to 12? Does Baylor end up in the WAC or CUSA? Does the ACC go to 9 with Miami? If so does the Big East FB form? Lots of dominoes that could have fell differently if the Big 8 said yes to the Razorbacks.

1st, This is often talked about here in Arkansas. Nobody wants to join the Big 12. But people would listen if a conference made up of Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas came about. Especially if the money seemed to work out.

2nd, Basketball won a national title in 94, and we've won like 20 something national titles in track and field since joining the SEC.

Yes, Back in the late 70's or early 80's. Arkansas tried to join the Big 8. But was blocked by Nebraska because they thought it would hurt their rivalry with Oklahoma. That would have been a great conference.

If Big 12 could guarantee Ark the same money it gets from the SEC, if it joined the Big 12, and Texas, OU, and Okla St all pledged to sign a new 10/15/whatever year GOR if Ark comes on board, what would fans say then?

Yeah well, Nebraska sucks. The Big Ten is finding that out.

Track and Field was winning national titles long before Arkansas joined the SEC. Just a great program.

You won the Basketball title shortly after joining the SEC. Nothing since

1st, I didn't say it was realistic.

2nd, I don't know. But Stoops isn't wrong about the rivalries between the UofA and the Okie U's.

That's true. We've won 44 titles.

RE: Bob Stoops: Arkansas would be an excellent fit in the Big 12
I've heard the legend that Arkansas once tried to join the Big 8 but never any place but message boards.

Now the late Orville Henry of the Arkansas Gazette wrote that in the wake of Board of Regents vs. NCAA and the drop in TV money that the late Frank Broyles (then AD at Arkansas) got LSU, Texas, Texas A&M, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Nebraska in the same room and pitched the idea that the group form their own league.

The Hog's conference affiliation situation has always been a bit odd.

They were in the SWC because it was easier to travel to Texas by train from Fayetteville than it was to go to the Missouri Valley/Big 8 or to the Southern/Southeastern

During that early era Arkansas was much more economically tied to Southeastern states.

In the interstate era that began shifting more toward Dallas (coupled with mechanized farming and low agri prices eroding the population in the delta).

Now Arkansas is much more engaged economically with Texas, UA recruits students not just student-athletes heavily in Dallas. With I-49 inching north, Kansas City and Fayetteville will be more engaged.

Being in the Big XII makes sense on a number of levels because the population center of Arkansas continues to shift west and north, further from SEC schools other than Missouri.

But I just don't see any circumstances for such a shift unless the TV model shifts dramatically (which is happening, but we don't know what it will look like or who the winners will be).

But, again, it's not like the Big 12 is chopped liver when it comes to TV. Actually, think they're #2 overall on a per school basis .....

And if Arkansas were to go "back" to the Big 12 (in the sense of the SWC), maybe Missouri would go back too? And with those two on board, the Big 12's TV profile would only increase further.

Not going to lie, a BiG XII with the hogs, corn and the slavers would be pretty cool. Have divisions but guarantee Arkansas an annual game with Texas and Oklahoma every year and OU/Nebraska every year and this could work. WVU and Va Tech to the SEC, UCONN to the ACC, and the Irish to the B1G. We can all die happy and shut the conference realignment board down for good.

Kansas

Hypothetically, if Missouri, Arkansas, LSU, and Texas A&M all decided they'd rather join the Big 12 is that conference worth much in terms of television value? Would they earn as much as the SEC?

It sounds like a really odd move but it would get them all out of Alabama's shadow and aside from LSU, I don't think anyone in that group has strong ties with the rest of the SEC.
