Even ignoring the "extra" moves in other conferences, what a dream it would be for the Big Ten to get rid of the Big Red Mistake! A guy can dream ... 04-cheers

Kick out Baylor and replace them with Texas A&M ... now that would be a conference! No one likes Waco these days anyway. Even Chip & Joanna are giving up.

If Fayetteville was in Eastern Arkansas, the SEC would make even more sense for the piggies. But the school is located just down the road from Okie St and Kansas and it has many connections to alumni and rivals in Texas, especially the Metroplex. The Big 12 was always a natural home, but probably not now. Jerry Jones seems to have made a point for his olde Arkansas to play often at Jerry's World and I'm sure he's angling to get them somehow.

Where did Colorado go?

At this point there's not much of a reason for them to come back other than history, culturally speaking Boulder is way closer to Seattle and Berkeley when comparing them to the likes of Waco and Manhattan. They always did stick out like a sore thumb out west too.

Yes, Back in the late 70's or early 80's. Arkansas tried to join the Big 8. But was blocked by Nebraska because they thought it would hurt their rivalry with Oklahoma. That would have been a great conference.

Arkansas in the Big 8 would have been great. It would have been a great fit. Fayetteville sits closer to 5 ex-Big 8 schools than to any school in the old SWC or the SEC (pre-Mizzou). Those would have turned into great rivalries.

The Big "9" would have been in a position to add UT, A&M, and Tech to go to 12. Baylor would not have been needed.

There is no guarantee that a Big 12 with Arkansas wouldn't have imploded like Big 12 1.0 did. It likely would have, as the same issues would have still occurred.

It would have been a fun conference, though. It's our loss.

Any conference with Nebraska and Texas in it would have lost Nebraska at some point. All aspects of the program, from the upper administration to the fanbase, got sick of the Longhorns' act within about five years.

School might be in Northwest Arkansas but make no make mistake the heart and powerbrokers of Arkansas is in Little Rock and that's lot closer to SEC country.

Lot of money in NW Ark, so I don't think I agree with that either.

Only in the imaginary world of this forum would somebody actually believe that LSU would rather be in the Big 12 than the SEC, or have more in common with them than the SEC.

I don't know about that.

The money fueling the program is much more NWA based than in the past, I don't think that's up for debate. Each time I've seen the list of premium seat holders the share from NWA has grown.

The Great Stadium Debate has helped fuel that as moving from three and four Little Rock games has made it less imperative to buy in for Central Arkansas money.

Last time Central Arkansas had a major push was back when Stephens tried to get support to build a 65,000 seat dome in the Little Rock metro. As I recall they sought a 20 year 70 game commitment with no less than three games a season back in the early 90's and couldn't get it. A few years later there was the push for an arena that Little Rock voters rejected.

It was a productive meeting. LSU reported the details and that helped in the SEC decision to expand and didn't hurt Arkansas at all. :)

Since Texas A&M and Mizzou were added to the SEC, Arkansas is better geographically connected to the conference.

Mizzou apparently is content with being organized in the SEC east. The Universities of GA, FL, KY, SC, TN, and Vandy, is a nice group for association and interaction. It is better diversity than interacting more frequently with two state schools each in Alabama and Mississippi. Unless Auburn would be moved to the east, Mizzou stays east without any eastern expansion. The cultivation of rivalries grow, and at some point, disrupting that process may distract from certain aspects of continuity.

Mizzou has been pursuing some recruits in the southeast, so it may render better dividends eventually. Travel for fans is a bit more extensive than what it would be in the SEC-W, but it supports cultural integration and exposure for all involved.

You could almost make a clean swap of Arkansas for West Virginia, and then move Mizzou to the SEC West.

Arkansas would never switch. This is just Stoops trolling the SEC, one of his favorite pastimes of the past few years. 07-coffee3

And only in your mind’s imaginary world did anyone suggest it as such.

As I correctly stated in my previous post, the only valid reason LSU would even discuss such a move would be to get out from beneath the football opression of Alabama and try to win more conf championships while still making similar (though probably somewhat less) TV money from the conf. But sometimes less is more, when you’re talking about the same ol s___ year after year after year.

While I love all the speculation and "what ifs", I saw this and wondered why the hell Arkansas would want to leave one of the 2 power (and $$$) conferences in favor of being in a conference that's on the verge of collapse and very well might not be around in 6-7 years.

Interesting fact: in the entire history of the SEC, only three universities voluntarily chose to leave. They are as follows: the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), Tulane University of Louisiana (Tulane), and the University of the South (Sewanee).
