Ah yes, with comments like that, it appears as if you are coming out as an 'insult troll' today. Congrats to you.

naw.....what most are trying to point out is you need to somehow find a sense of comfort in humor.....

none of us really care about any of this bs......

I'll be having a nice dinner with friends after I get off from work. Just like every other normal, boring American does from time to time.

Based on the way you act here I would be surprised if anyone had questions about your sexuality.

Aside from internal team building events and the annual Christmas party, I choose to basically disengage from all social interaction with my coworkers. Occassionally, we go to lunch and talk about work or maybe hunting (I don't hunt so I don't contribute there). We certainly don't talk about sexual conquests. Unless you are married, I can't think of any way sexual preference could be appropriately inferred in small talk at work. My career has not been harmed in the slightest.

You'd be surprised. Every once in a while I have to sit someone down and flat out tell them. That's usually when they ask why I'm not going out to their bar for the 4th time this week when we're on the road. Or, hey I went by your room last night at 10pm...where were you?

I actually prefer it if the gossip mill does the work for me. Then its not me coming out at work, but rather some other person running their mouth.

Well that's not the world I live in. Informal networks, even for professionals are big in my industry as to how you get clients or new jobs or promotions. You have to play the game to a certain extent.

He's not talking about saying "my husband and I went to our family reunion this weekend". His point is clear.

Actually, if you say that even once at work, then everyone will know. People gossip.

The only way to not be out at work is to not have any personal friendship with anyone in your office and to lie in any social interaction with coworkers.

Actually, saying 'my husband and I went to our family reunion this weekend' is coming out at work.

As Olive said, my point was pretty clear. You don't avoid it, but you don't shove it in people's faces either. Its not their business. It should be irrelevant.

Unfortunately, there are a LOT of people who find it very relevant, to the point that they are trying to pass laws to enable the denial of service, medical care, employment, and housing to people who are openly LGBT or even suspected of being so.

That's why coming out is brave. Its also highly important because there are many people who demonize us. Coming out provides context

Growing up, people always said try to learn something every day no matter how useless it may be in life. I guess I can say that I have done that today. Never knew there was a National Come out of the Closet Day. I can now file that away with other important things like who is the President of Iceland and who won the NBA MVP last year.
