The weather on Saturday could play in our favor
It’s going to be warm (not UCLA game warm) with decent humidity which is something Navy is probably not used to playing in and our guys are used to practicing in it.

Not if our offense has is scoring quickly and our defense can't get off the field.

I think the weather might help us or hurt us, based on how many bodies are available on the defense against Navy's "grind-up-the-clock" offense. Especially on the DL.

Our proven inability to stop the run two years in a row trumps the narrative of Navy will wear down in the heat... Hope our coaching staff has a different plan than what they had last year!!

Those Navy guys are in good shape, I expect the weather will have little impact.

It will actually be about the same at kickoff.

Versus UCLA is was 84 degrees with a real feel of 89. Saturday is forecasted to be 86 with a real feel of 88.

Exactly. It will only effect the fans. And plus, this weather is nearly the same as the UCLA weather......???

One can be in great shape but still be affected by temperatures that are different.

Heat, to a certain degree, is similar to altitude.

Heck, look at any long distance running. Temps in the 70's have a substantial effect on world class runners. Heat takes a toll if one isn't heat acclimated.

Weather affect a Navy player? Those guys do more fitness drills and are better trained than most football teams will ever know. Heat, humidity will not be a factor.

The temp at last weeks Navy game was 81 so I don't think it will be much different. If anything the weather might affect us more since we have little depth on defense.

Every Midshipman has daily PT since they were Plebes and then you add football conditioning. There will be little to no effect from weather on them

The Typical Daily Schedule is as follows:

0545-0630 Physical Training - Introduction to PEP
0700-0720 Breakfast
0730-1215 Morning Academic Workshops
1225-1300 Lunch
1345-1600 Afternoon Academic Workshops
1600-1800 Intramurals, Special Events
1830-1900 Evening Meal
2000-2245 Squad/Company Time, Special Events
2300 Taps- much needed rest

Yeah, but no heat index. The temp dropped into the upper 70's for most of the game and the winds were 10+ mpg with gusts up to 25.

If it feels like it did at the UCLA game, it will have an effect.

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

Heat acclimation has a profound affect on performance.

One can be in the best shape in the world but when placed in a situation where it is warmer than normal, performance is affected.

But whatever, I'm sure you are an expert in athletic performance.

LOL

I agree that weather (well, heat) is very very rarely a factor because most teams are usually performing at peak conditioning, but to suggest that Navy is better trained is just some military wankery.

You need to come off space mountain for a while.

I am an expert in the fact that if you go through the academy you do not go to boot afterwards. That means the academy PT requirements are such that they prepare you to go directly into the USMC without having to go through the PT of boot. And this is WITHOUT the extra football specific PT you receive in football practice.

Of the two teams on the field it is a rarity that any team is in better physical conditions than those in the academies.

Marathon runners are in peak condition before they race. However, racing in 75 degree weather as opposed to 55 degree weather has a substantial effect on their ability to keep up paces that they normally could in 55 degree weather.

Runners who train at 55 degrees then go run in 75 have a harder time than runners who have trained in 70 degree weather then run in 75 degree weather.

RE: The weather on Saturday could play in our favor
From last Saturday's game. (High 81--no heat index, most of the game in the upper 70's with constant wind):

It took absolutely everything Navy had in its tank to survive what became a battle of attrition on a surprisingly warm, humid and breezy long day’s journey into night. Players on both teams went down on play after play, many with heat-induced cramps, others with injuries. It appeared no one in the record crowd of 38,792 had left as the Mids scrambled down the field on their desperate final drive.

When Air Force’s final play, which involved four laterals, was finally over, the brigade of midshipmen rushed the field. Then they had to get back into their seats for “Navy Blue and Gold.”

Niumatalolo’s exhaustion was apparent even as he walked up the tunnel. “Got nothing left,” he said.
