2015 was tied in the third when Navy broke it with a long passing TD, then pulled away in the fourth.

Last season, we had the ball in the fourth down by 7. Had a turnover which they cashed in for the 14 point spread.

Not the way I remember the 2015 game. We scored in the second minute of the game, and had a good drive at the beginning of the 3rd Q, but otherwise Navy kicked our ass.

Losing 45-20 at home while being ranked #13 on national TV to end a 15 game win streak was a rude awakening.

In 2015 Navy led 17-10 at the half. The Tigers scored early in the 2nd half to tie the game 17-17. Navy went up 24-17. Tigers kicked a FG to make it 24-20 with 5:25 left in the 3rd quarter. It was all Navy after that.

Paxton hit a long pass to Montiel (maybe??) on about the 3rd play of the game to get down to the Navy 5 or 10. We scored real early, kicked off and Navy had about a 10 play, 75 yard TD drive lasting what seemed like 2 days. Navy also ran that play action pass for a 75 or 80 yard TD. Their QB has throw 40 times all year. Riley had that many against UConn and more than that vs UCF.

Ok.

In what sense did I not posit that the 2015 game was tied in the third quarter, then Navy took a TD lead, then pulled away?

Even those disagreeing with that agreed with that.

Sometimes we are very odd.

Your posit was that the game was competitive. I was there, it was not. Getting beat by 25 at home is not competitive. And we came in as an 8-10 point favorite. Navy ran for almost 400 yards.

From the ESPN game recap: "Memphis coach Justin Fuente said "They kicked our tail. ... They are a nightmare."

I hope Norvell hired Barry Switzer as a consultant for this game.

DallasTiger, do you remember when Spitzer was a weekly guest on The Hardline, I think.

They would predict how many effs, damns and hells Switzer would say in his 10 minute segment. He was good radio.

Based on the LB ticket chart, this game will be nowhere close to 50,000, unless they sell a TON of tickets in the next 24 hours.

Don't discount the Memphis fans habit of walking up to purchase tickets.

Yep, especially on a Saturday afternoon when it's not raining or freezing.

Anything over 40,000 is reasonable. 45,000 would be great.

I'm expecting mid-40s. If it was a night game we probably would be approaching 50k.

Why did I know that like to Internet fight guy would still argue.

I actually wrote that the games were more competitive than memory served. The style here is that we lost both games by getting smashed the entire time. I was tempering that to remind folks that the first one was tied in the third quarter, and as another poster noted, was even a four point game late in the third. That is...as mentioned...more competitive than some remember, although indeed, it was not a one score game late. I believe I posted that was because Navy pulled away late. I guess instead of those facts, it would be better to indicate we got boofooed in the second half in a game we were locks to win?

THAT is really what some want to dig in for...?

Good lord.

Good lord.

We were totally unprepared in 2015, just ask most of the players.

In 2016, we were driving for the tying score and a turnover killed the drive and lead to the double digit loss. Would like to think, yeah I'm overly positive, had we tied the score, we had a better chance to win than lose.

Once again...it was also our Head Coach. There was something wrong with Fuente in that game.

I could feel a weakness there, lol, and texted my friend at half time who was at the LB.

Fuente is not himself, I told him. Something is wrong.

In retrospect is was Fuente's focus, I guess.

What I'm saying is, I 'expect' Norvell's focus to be on this game, whether utk wants him or not.

Absolutely. I've got a couple of Micks with your name on em. Just come early, 1-2, and I'll be there. I bring my 85 year old dad to the games and we leave early to get to the stadium.

Ask for #christanmingle when you get to F199.

I'm gonna be positive on this and say we get 50K, but I do realize we r talkin Memphis where there r many reasons to stay home, there is the weather, hot, cold, windy, rain. There is what sec game is on, what time is Tiger game and ect. Come on Tiger fans go to the game and watch Riley and Anthony show Navy a real air show.
Paxton scared me when he couldn't bust the Navy zone, but I don't think Fuente wanted him to throw deep on Navy. My sources r saying Riley is gonna have a record day and the running game will confuse the mids. Sources also say the D is gonna slow Navy run game to a crawl. Now go to the game and hit 50K

It will likely be close to SIU. Probably a little better. Historically, night games draw better in Sep and Oct. Winning will always be the main factor when it comes to averaging higher attendance over the course of a season.
