RE: Gary Anderson OUT immediately from Oregon State
Actually , I don't want Oregon State to have a third reunion with Riley. Let him try the NFL or maybe he can stomach working under Saban for awhile and then land at a place like Kentucky or Mizzou. I want Oregon State to hire Dennis Erickson again. Erickson had the Beavers climbing meteoric heights before bolting for the San Francisco 49ers, who have been a mess ever since Ed DeBartolo Jr. got forced out.

Coaches gone by Week 7
1. UTEP
2. Oregon State
3. Next up? Your guess?

Nebraska has tOSU this weekend.

If tOSU hangs a 60 on them and they get embarrassed at home again, Reily could be out by Sunday.

Something seems fishy to me, when has there been a coach that's willingly given up their buyout? Maybe it's nothing, but I wonder if there's more to the story.

I would think so. Nobody leaves millions owed unless the stress was unbearable.

$12 million relieves a lot of stress. There has to be more to this that just hasn't come out yet.

How often to coaches forego remainder on deal?

Where did you see that?

$12,630,555: What Oregon State head coach Gary Andersen was guaranteed thru 2021.

He agreed to give that $ up to leave the school today.

RE: Gary Anderson OUT immediately from Oregon State
There must be a factor untold. Otherwise, it is a case of "I agree to quit now so I don't get formally fired, and I will accept a decision for no further compensation." Bottom line, it was a termination.

It doesn't make sense. There was a contract. Anderson could agree to a reduction to leave immediately; but OSU, on surface, looks somewhat heartless in not offering him something that's fiscally reasonable. Don't near all of these P5 coaches have agents and/or attorneys that bargain in their behalf?

Certainly there is more to the story they want to keep under lid, at least for now. Perhaps it will eventually work out well for Anderson, and he will find a coaching stop elsewhere that will be a better fit to find success.

OSU likely said he was done at season's end or just ahead of the Civil War. And if those are the school's terms, Anderson may have hated the next couple of weeks being a dead man walking. And, knowing higher education and college athletics, anything that guy even tries to do is probably countered by some administrator above him. In short, he can walk the sidelines, and look like he's coaching...but he isn't calling any shots anymore.

Now, one might be able to stomach all of that for $12 million...he's not wrong for getting to walk away and getting ahead of that NOW, especially if there's already someone else willing to bring him in for support.

They did each other favors.

RE: Gary Anderson OUT immediately from Oregon State
https://deadspin.com/report-gary-anderse...socialflow

Yesterday, reporter Ken Goe published an account detailing the reaction to Andersen’s departure from within the program, completed mainly with the help of several connected anonymous sources. As was the case with Danny Moran’s followup that was published Tuesday morning, not one person thought Andersen would call it quits; even former Utah coach Ron McBride, who speaks with Andersen regularly as his mentor and friend, was surprised by the resignation, saying he wished that the former Beavers coach had talked it through with him first.

That information, while interesting, was largely to be expected—nobody expects a Power Five coach to drop in the middle of the season, let alone do it and leave $12.6 million on the table. But while everyone from players to fellow Pac-12 coaches admitted that the Week 6 resignation was a shock, the sources in Goe’s piece all pointed to one common factor that led to Andersen hanging up the headset: issues with his coaching staff.

Good info here

Andersen clearly did not think highly of his assistants (which could explain why neither the OC, DC nor another assistant with former HC experience is the interim head coach). Still, it's one thing to say these things privately, but to publish these exchanges in public is most irregular. Did Andersen really not know these would be published? Or, with whom he ever shared this exchange with, get permission to forward it to a newspaper?

In either case, over $12 million in suddenly free cash should get a decent new staff in place for the offseason. Wonder if they call Mark Helfrich.

Oy, reads like the "not my guys" bit with his assistant coaches...he has no business trying to big league anyone.
