NY Times covered up Weinstein's predations
https://www.thewrap.com/media-enablers-h...ork-times/

Times had the story in 2004, but refused to publish.

...In 2004, I was still a fairly new reporter at The New York Times when I got the green light to look into oft-repeated allegations of sexual misconduct by Weinstein. It was believed that many occurred in Europe during festivals and other business trips there.

I traveled to Rome and tracked down the man who held the plum position of running Miramax Italy. According to multiple accounts, he had no film experience and his real job was to take care of Weinstein’s women needs, among other things.

As head of Miramax Italy in 2003 and 2004, Fabrizio Lombardo was paid $400,000 for less than a year of employment. He was on the payroll of Miramax and thus the Walt Disney Company, which had bought the indie studio in 1993.

I had people on the record telling me Lombardo knew nothing about film, and others citing evenings he organized with Russian escorts....

Amazing how many people knew about him and no media ever did anything about until last week.

Who did he piss off? Curious about this story breaking now. What are they trying to cover up that is going on now that this story will take up the other story's oxygen?

Maybe they should be thanking Donald Trump. He has exposed all their hypocrisy.

I have a funny feeling the mega silence from Hollywood and the left isn't just because their hypocrisy has been exposed.

At that point, it wouldn't be difficult (one would think) for them to just come out and speak out against this and further improve their image with their base and others.

Unless...

They're not talking because there's a lot more dirt out there. That's really the logical answer here. Put yourselves in their shoes and think about it. It would be incredibly simple to put out a statement saying, "I'm shocked, really. I never knew that side of him and it disgust me."

I have a funny feeling the reason we're not seeing a lot of that is because they know if they do... he'd swing back.

RE: NY Times covered up Weinstein's predations
We hear TWC has been making calls to TV networks and producers informing them that Harvey Weinstein’s name will be scrubbed from credits going forward. They were prompted by strong reaction from TV executives and creative auspices involved in TWC series who practically demanded the name removal as they wanted to distance their projects from Weinstein following the New York Times‘ devastating Thursday expose detailing decades of sexual harassment behavior. That report has been exacerbated by numerous subsequent accounts by women who have come out in the past couple of days.

Wonder if that is legal to eliminate credits. Maybe, as long as he still gets royalties. But then again, maybe not. Would you take an author's name off a book simply because he did something bad?

Yeah, you're not doing it to punish the author. You're doing it to cover your backside.

BTW - This is fake news nonsense.

Quote:“Sharon has now had more than a decade to pursue this story unencumbered by me or any New York Times editor,” Landman told POLITICO. “Why, if she had the goods on Weinstein in 2004, has she been unable or unwilling to publish something in the Wrap, where she was in charge? Could it be because she didn’t actually have the goods then, now or in between?”

RE: NY Times covered up Weinstein's predations

Surprisingly "down the middle" take on Harvey Weinstein AND the hollywood culture.

Quote:en the infamous “Access Hollywood” tape leaked one year ago, capturing then-candidate, now-President Trump bragging in coarse terms in 2005 about being allowed to grab women because he was a celebrity, Hollywood had a meltdown.

Cher called Trump a “scumbag carny barker" on Twitter. Comedian Patton Oswalt labeled him a “sexist creep.” Actress Emmy Rossum wrote: “misogynistic entitled pig.”

This week, amid revelations that Oscar-winning movie and television producer Harvey Weinstein had a long history of sexually harassing women, Hollywood’s response was largely muted. Film studios on Friday all declined to comment.

Quote:Hollywood has a poor track record when it comes to women. Actresses received just 31.4% of speaking roles in the top 100 films released last year, according to the Media, Diversity and Social Change Initiative at USC Annenberg’s School for Communication and Journalism. The “sexy stereotype” persisted with more than a quarter of females in those films wearing sexy attire, compared with 5.7% of men. In 2015, the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission opened an investigation into allegedly discriminatory hiring practices against female directors.

Hollywood likes to project an image of being progressive about issues of race, gender and social issues — but at the end of the day it is an incredibly regressive industry,” said Caroline Heldman, a college professor who has worked with alleged victims of Bill Cosby and Weinstein. “It is an industry that, in many ways, looks more like the 1950s.”
