That poses another question. IF both home and visitor locker rooms are identical in amenities, why not have the home team in the west locker room so that the teams don't have to cross each other going to and from their respective locker rooms? Perhaps UAB values the additional exposure of being able to run across the field (showmanship) when entering before the kickoff.

Don't know if it's ever been done but it's a bad idea. You want the visitors in the sun all day

thats why we have never moved the home bench over there. Sitting in the sun in pads just saps the energy right out of you. UAB should definitely charge less for tickets on that side of the field though to encourage fans to sit over there.
There would be nothing to keep them from purchasing cheap in the sun and walking over to the cool shady side

There were some La Tech fans that sat a row down from us on the home side.
I could pretty much bet that it was the seats designated on their ticket.

If they were local folks, they probably knew no one would check their tickets against their seats. Maybe one day our attendance will be such that tickets will be checked by ushers, but not yet. Right now you can buy a ticket and then sit where you please, and no one cares unless they have paid for those particular seats.
Historical note: Back when Bama played major games at Legion Field, my brother's reserved seats were invaded by Bama students who flooded the section. When ushers called in police to move them, it was found that there was no law on the books to make them move. The next week B'ham passed an ordinance to solve that problem.

I hate to continue this, but the discussion is important. The team from Tuscaloosa used to use the east sideline as their "home" sideline at Legion Field. Supposedly, their famous coach did it for two reasons, to make his team always on the top part of the TV screen and to keep the teams from crossing each other before halves and post-game.

This.
And you're probably in the sun for 3-4 home games unless you make it a later kick off.
Also those tix should be cheaper earlier in the season.

Yes, I know. I was just trying to bait a response. They used to be on the east side of the stadium.
At some point they did make the change from west side to east side for that very reason of having to cross over the field.
I was curious though why the sun wasn't a factor in choosing that side. Unless some type global warming deal has happened, the sun would be shining on the east side more than the west side like it does now.

RE: The Block
I have been making this argument for years, back even before the shutdown. Most every video and photo of the games have come from the west side of the stadium, showing a mostly empty Legion Field. It didn't matter if there were 25K people on the other side of the stadium, it always appeared like the stadium was empty to those who didn't come to the games.
So, when the haters on Finebaum and the Opening Drive called in and said there weren't 2,000 people at UAB's game, the visuals sure seemed to fit their narrative. That's why they were so surprised that we came out of the woodwork to support #TheReturn, because they were convinced that there were no more than a couple of thousand of us total.
Those of us who were at the games know differently, but in this case perception is reality for those we are trying to entice to come to games and support UAB football. As someone mentioned earlier, people are sheep, and they tend to go where the other sheep go. People who don't already have an interest in the program don't want to go to an empty stadium, and support a program that no one else cares about.
Even after one of our biggest moments as a program on Saturday, our detractors immediately noticed in the highlights that no one was there, even with the loud crowd noise coming from behind the camera. Of course, some suggested that we were piping in crowd noise; if we are, the guy who is doing it has perfect timing, and he even made it sound like it was coming right from my section (12).
We are in a PR game here, and the deck is stacked against us here. I think we need to take whatever steps necessary to consider turning things around. The press box and sky boxes aren't moving, and it would be a great hassle (and inevitable PR nightmare) to move all of the fans to the other side. So, we need to do whatever it takes to make sure every photographer and videographer on the field is on the visitor side, and move the set camera positions for televised games to the other side.
That's my $.02.

Actually, we have! I don't know why I know this piece of obscure Blazer trivia.
Although you guys may have blocked this from memory (I tried to with all the beer I drank before, during, and after this game), McGee had us swap sidelines for a Thursday night game vs Rice because the game was on national TV.
Much like everything else McGee-related, this was an epic fail, as only 5,831 of us crazies actually went:

Fun to reminisce on such good times!

May be a duplicate request - but any chance someone can crop the "block" photo with our logo over the empty visitor stands...? Love it as my phone and PC background but irritated with the visitors side being in the shot.

We are continuing to shoot ourselves in the foot with any photos or video showing the visitors side of the stadium in the background.

The TV production people have mobile cameras that can be carried on the shoulders or placed on a stationary tripod. It appears the answer is simply to ask the producer to provide 50 % of the shots from the the visitors perspective.
