If Santa goes down we are at QB's #'s 3 and 4 and might not have much of a passing game.

In rewatching Childers TD pass to Tears, it was supposed to be a wheel route to Wiman with a pick by Tears but that didn't happen so Wimann was covered but Tears was open starting on the 8 yard line. The pass was completed but Childers never fully gets his feet readjusted so the pass is slighty behind Tears and almost knocked down by the db. Point being it's a game of inches and Childers still probably doesn't yet have the fundamentals down pat.

Here is one thing to keep in mind, Santa could not physically perform in those conditions, he had to be pulled because he literally could not perform. Childers came in and did the job where Santa could not. Not easy to play in tropical storm force winds, but Childers was the QB that was able to do it.

What does this even mean? He could not physically perform.? Santa had 9 plays; he had had nothing open on 3 pass plays, so he took the sack or ran; exactly what everyone is asking him to do when the playis not there. He made 1 pass that was well thrown, but a poor decision; it was thrown into double coverage and the DB made an incredible athletic play. He had one play where the ball was knock from his grasp that he regained control of. Carey said Childers was coming in the 3rd series regardless. When Santa came back in we were moving the balli until he made threw the pick; at that point Carey decided to go the rest of the way with Childers. Not sure where the hell you're going with this one.

You could tell santa was not able to handle the wet ball, wind, etc. Carey saw this and yanked him instantly.

Carey is trying to be diplomatic so that no QB is out of the mix, he is going to rotate QBs the rest of the year, so you don't want to give the impression you have given up on anyone. Santa was put back in during garbage time.

Garbage time. He was put back in the game right after Childers first series. This is exactly why your statement is absolutely ridiculous.

It became clear Santa could not handle the elements. I'm not saying anything controversial. What's the alternative , Carey pulled Santa because he hates him? I'm guessing it was performance driven. If you think the plan going into the game was to have Childers take 80 percent of the snaps you are mistaken

Carey pulled Santa because he made a bad decision; it was a well thrown ball (in spite of the weather conditions) but into double coverage; absolutely nothing to do Santa not being able to handle the conditions. Had Santa thrown to Huff (the right read, it was an easy 6) it's likely Childers doesn't come back in he game. Carey was punishing Santa for the turnover. Childers came back in the game and was effective for the rest of the half. So he decided to stick with him until he turned the ball over twice; that's when Santa came back in.

RE: Marcus Childers - is he the guy?
I just read Carrey’s press conference from today.
http://www.niuhuskies.com/news/2017/10/1...-2017.aspx

Kent State game: Childers was coming in at QB in the 3rd series regardless; he is at QB for the 12-play 80-yard TD drive and then Santa goes back in for the 4th drive; that had to be preset also. Carey does not say what was preset after that, but it sounded like after Santa’s pick any QB game plan went out the window.

Buffalo game: Graham will not be ready. Carey does not know who will start/play; it depends on this week’s practice.

Overall, it sounds like in Carey’s mind right now there is no clear #1 QB. I get the sense whether it is Santa or Childers starting/playing at Buffalo they will be on a very short leash. I hope that does not make either of them play scared of getting the hook.

Thank you! Well stated. I would be very surprised if Carey starts Santa. Carey is much more willing to give up big play potential, to someone who Is less prone to making mistakes. Given the strength of our defense, and the level of MAC competition, this is a logical approach. This offensive scheme requires a running QB, Santa is far more athletic than what he has been allowed to show, but Childers skill set may fit this scheme better than Santa. The key to this approach is score first, don't chase a deficit, possess the ball and don't make mistakes. Let your defense win the game. This approach/strategy favors Childers/Graham over Santa.

We found two guys capable of winning all the MAC games. The third guys probably get us three more losses.

Regarding Santa's running, is it possible he has a minor leg injury, hence not running as much? Or as his passing develops he is turning into more of a pocket passer?

Hard to think it won’t be Childers on Saturday. Doesn’t sound like Graham is particularly close to returning either.

Must be very hard for the Buffalo defense to prepare against multiple quarterbacks?
Keep em guessing!

I mean there is no benefit to showing his hand. Only will help us as they will have to watch more film on both.

I'm beginning to really like the idea of playing both. Santa to start the drive and Childers to finish. Brings the deep ball into play for Santa...

But I'd rather stick with Childers and start two or three drives with Santa to keep him involved.

This would be a departure from what Carey has consistently communicated; "I am not a two QB guy". If he starts Childers, and I think he will; unless he turns the ball over (which I don't see happening given the running and short, high% passes), or he is grossly ineffective, which I also don't see happening; barring injury, I think you see Childers exclusively in this game. Again, he is much more comfortable with this type of offensive game plan.

He played Childers two to three drives... I don't think it's a departure from his MO.
