RE: Marcus Childers - is he the guy?
Childers throws a nice deep ball but the conditions were really tough and they barely missed on 3 deep balls. Little more practice and timing should help.

Hugh? I have seen many times (including by me) a lack of faith in the personnel decision making, but I have never gotten the sense anyone here believes the coaches are trying to undermine the team.

Their faith in Graham and unwillingness to play Huff really had me wondering at times... It was really frustrating.

Santacaterina gives you the deep threat, a good running back combined with deep passing is a serviceable offense. With our defense that's all we should need.

The issue with a 2 QB system is that neither develops at the pace they could if they were really "the guy". Childers needs reps. If he gets them he may be able to develop his passing game. Santa has an upside if he can improve his decision making; you get that by playing, they call that experience.
They are not running Santa because they are protecting him. He showed he could run last year. Childers gives you that dimension.
The players that benefit most from Santa's deep ball is Blake and Huff; neither were effective today. His deep ball accuracy has been absolutely amazing. Could the WR caught some of Cihilders passes today...maybe; but it highlights the in-stride dimes that Santa has been throwing. I get the feeling Carey prefers the running QB ability over the big play, but inconsistent Santa. This is a tough call.

You don’t think the heavy rain had anything to do that as well?? I mean come on, it was obvious any team is going to run in that weather regardless who your QB is

For playing in a hurricane, I thought Childers was great, definitely could see the instant difference when he came in

RE: Marcus Childers - is he the guy?
Both guys, probably from lack of experience, struggle to read defenses

Both guys today threw terrible interceptions, the Santa pick was in to double coverage and the wheel was WIDE open, Childers threw a pick on the same route and ignored the flat which was WIDE open, both guys left points on the field

I prefer Childers because of the zone read, he has much more potential in that style

We're in a tricky spot at QB right now

This is why, summer camp needs to be used for evaluating the position. Ive never ever liked extending summer camp into the first 6 to 8 weeks of the season. Much of this tricky spot is self inflicted wound. My guess is that Carey wont make a decision on anything and will continue the musical chairs. He has trouble making these decisions.

RE: Marcus Childers - is he the guy?
No No No...he is NOT the guy! It's obvious now, ANTHONY THOMPSON is the guy to take the team to the next level!
Think like this: Graham down, next man up, Santa. Santa's an INT machine, next man in, Childers. Childers will quickly show a weakness, so we go to #4. :)

Seriously, we have 3 guys who have shown enuf skills to win games. Might be none shine brighter than the other but we now have good depth at QB and they are mostly healthy after 5 games. I will predict each QB will win us a game this year. Now, we need some of the RBs and WRs to take over a game or 2 and win it with a minor QB contribution.

I'm good with the QB situation, enjoy this ride, it'll sort itself out with more wins than losses.

This is a tough call, and I am OK with going with either Santa or Childers. I would not be OK with Graham starting.

Childers played much, much better than Santa today. Santa would have won today's game as well but he would not have played as well as Childers. You go with performance until the kid doesn't perform...

It stopped raining very early in the 2nd half! What about the rest of the half? And I don't think the rain would explain overthrowing receivers.

And Santa ONLY played when there was both rain and wind, so not really a fair comparison. NIU won today because they were playing Kent State with their 3rd string QB. Childers is more mobile than the other QBs but we won't get very far unless opposing defenses respect our passing attack too. They really didn't have to today.

It rained for 3 quarters and the wind was 20 to 30 mph from the south. Tough passing conditions. Certain things will be harder to evaluate than others.

The defensive teams both played the run all day.

Punters over-kicked into the north endzone all day.

Hard to make a call on Childers ability today.

What you can see is Santa making another dumb pass into double coverage. Then I think Childers did the same late.

Yes Childers seems to be the best runner of the 3 and I'm surprised at Santa's lack of production running. Maybe it is just me as I need to see stats or rewatch game.

If Santa would stop making dumb interceptions it woulf be his job. But he is not consistent enough.

In my mind it is why Graham was named starter for game 1. He limits the bad plays which could kill a team.

What would you call it when several people who are not at every practice and meeting feel that they have a better idea as to who should play and that the coaches are holding back this team?

Santa does seem slower this year running the ball than he did last year.

Making the right/wrong decisions on personnel and playing time is a judgment call. Suggesting that any coach is intentionally undermining the team remains ridiculous.

If Childers gets the job and keeps it, not only would it be one of the quickest hooks of all time, Santa will go down as one of the most successful (and productive) QB's to ever lose a job.
I got to beleve that Carey will play who ever thinks gives his team the best chance to win. Today that was Childers.

Because this staff played Graham ahead of Maddie last year. Because they played Graham ahead of Santa this year. Because they refused to play Huff last year and the first two games this year. Very questionable.

On the same token I should give the staff credit for keeping Childers engaged and giving him valuable snaps that allowed him to develop poise and feel for the game to lead him to today's success.

Buddy who knew of Santa at Geneva HS believes this is what u get. Players like him and rally on him, but his skills are abit limited and mistakes come with the package. He is not a guy to carry the team consistently. Seems like we are seeing a repeat of his HS career.

I'd love to hear how Graham and Childers were perceived in HS. anyone?

The coaches didn't help him but you can't throw 4 picks in 5 quarters... And think that your job is secure. Of course he should have only throw 2 picks if the coaches managed him better.
