Just when you think stAte has reached it's ultimate point of pathetic...they pull another stunt.

Look at this well...thing..that is their new 'spirit character'

They call it "Red". I call it "Gay"

man you got to be kidding, they would have to hold a gun on someone to show up wearing that.
They should win some games though, the opposing team will be laughing to hard to play!

I know its a "cardinal sin" to support all schools in the state, especially UA and ASU at the same time, but this thing is meant for small children who might find it fun and hopefully will associate Red with having a good time, and get their parents to come out to the football games.

Steve Roberts is doing a great job with that football team, and anything that will get butts in the seats is a positive.

getting stAte back to 1-AA where it belongs is a positive for starters.

Secondly, look at Woopig.net, Rabidhogfans, even Tribalgrounds. All of em are saying this thing is pathetic.

Third, check the girls in the picture. I don't think they look too excited.

Finally, anything that ridicules stAte, I'm for. These people have no logic whatsoever. If they REALLY wanted to go over 15,000 in attendance, they should be playing UCA again. stAte played UCA, a D-2 school, a few years ago in Jonesboro. It was the ONLY time in stAte's history that their stadium of 30,000 was sold out. stAte survived, 35-34, and refused to play UCA since. All they need is one game with UCA, and their attendance woes are gone. But nope, it's not their fault, it's all Frank Broyles's fault because JFB has a total monopoly on the state and doesn't want to let it go. Who WOULD? It'd be a loss-loss situation for UA. If we won big, people would cry about how we ran it up, and stAte gets sympathizers, we lose fans. If we barely won, people would give stAte credit, we'd lose fans, they'd pick up fans.

stAte fans are ignorant though, and can't see the picture. They could fix their own problems and won't. Now they try to take fans away with weekly LR conferences and trying to move into WMS in LR. This, however, is a joke and a pure laugh-off. But it's definitely easy for most HOG fans to understand, that pulling for stAte is indirectly pulling against the UA, and does not make you a Razorback in any shape, form, or size.

I read the other message boards and have seen their opinions. I agree that it looks stupid to me, but concede that its not marketed to me. As you will read on TribalGrounds, many are in agreement with me.

So why exactly do you care so much that stAte fans blame Broyles for all their woes? Obviously its a copout, Broyles has a lot of influence, but not enough to keep ASU from rising to the top. Now, the administration is doing what it can to get away from this stigma of blaming UA for all is problems, trying to become a self sufficient university that gains attendence on its own right, and you are saying they should go to I-AA?

Pulling for stAte is NOT!!!! against the UA. Not in any shape matter or form. Pulling for Texas, Oklahoma, LSU, and any other rival school, that is against UA. ASU is not a rival school, and I look at it under the same light I look at all the D-2 Gulf South teams from Arkansas. I hope they all find success and bring glory to this state.

ASU doesnt need to play UCA anymore to gain attendance. They have a strong football team that can compete in the Sun Belt, and that is proving the point that ASU does belong in D-1A. Attendance was on the increase last year, and will continue to rise with subsequent great seasons, not by going back to I-AA just when the school is starting to prove that they belong in I-A.

Wait a sec...b/c you're competitive in the Sun Belt means you should be 1-A?

Nope, I disagree.

Competitive in the MAC, yes.. in C-USA, absolutely... but the Sun Belt is pitifully weak. To be honest, all of those schools need to be 1-AA, and fact is...almost all of em are in danger of becoming just that next year.

Pulling for any school who threatens the in-state fan base of the Razorbacks IS pulling against the UA. UCA does not threaten our fan base, neither do any of the other D-2 schools. I hope UCA and ATU and other D-2 schools do well. UAPB fans don't hate us as well. It's stAte though that is trying to go against us head on with their "How long will the hogs run" crap and their yelling at Broyles and what not.

Sorry bigolhawg, but you're wrong here. stAte didn't use to be against UA. It was when stAte made their 1-A kick and started this protesting of why UA wouldn't play them that got just about the entire HOG nation saying to hell with them. You don't see anyone on RHF or woopig bashing UCA or any Gulf South school, it's only stAte cause THEY ASKED FOR IT.

You just contradicted yourself. If stAte doesnt play real football, football that is found in MAC and C-USA, then why would you care whether people support them or not? When the Hogs are in Little Rock, I hope all of Jonesboro shows up. When the Hogs are in Fayetteville, I hope as many people from Jonesboro make the five hour trip as they possibly can. But very few of them can afford to get a hotel room, to eat, to pay 28 dollars for a ticket. And in those cases, when stAte is at home, and when UA on the road or in Fayetteville, I would love for the citizens of Northeast Arkansas to pack Indian Stadium.

It makes no sense to me how you say that ASU doesnt play football worth worrying about, and that they are threatening the UA fan base. Heres the truth, until ASU joins a mid-major conference and gets out of the Sun Belt, which is on the rise, but is still I-A in name only, Razorback fans have nothing to worry about.

If ASU doesnt meet the new attendance requirements for I-A, then they can go back to being a premier I-AA school. If they do, they can continue their rise and maybe in 15 or 20 years join a "real" conference. Either way, the only way ASU becomes a threat to UA is if Razorback athletics take a dive, and thats not about to happen.

Why would you want them to support stAte though? That's the whole thing!!!!

stAte has done NOTHING but bash UA, Broyles, etc. and blame them for all their troubles. These people CHEER if it's announced at their stadium that we're losing a game. Tell me, why should ANY UA fan in NE Arkansas make ANY effort to go to a stAte game?!!!

It doesn't matter that stAte doesn't play with the real big boys. If you go to any D-2 game or school and ask them about UA, most of them are huge Razorback fans. In fact, I have several friends at ATU and all of them love the Razorbacks. They all hate the Indians. Why? Simple. stAte, and stAte alone, is trying to make us the enemy. Most Razorback fans seem to comprehend this fact. How you don't, I don't know...that's beyond me.

stAte's whole objective to being successful was trying to say that this state was a 2-school state, that UA won't accept that, and that UA is the enemy and the problem. That's why so many Razorback fans wish them suffering and a drop to 1-AA. These punks need a reality check; they need to realize that trying to divide the state between UA and stAte doesn't work. Never has, and never will.

Until stAte stops their anti-UA campaign, I will NEVER be for them, I will NEVER support them, and I will NEVER wish them any good fortune

Some ASU fans are slow to change. But many of them, not the rabid ones on the message boards, but the casual fans do not associate ASU's problems with the UA.

Trying to make a point while you constantly assume that all people think one way is a waste. Saying that you cant call yourself a Razorback if you dont hate ASU is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard in my life.

stAte fans have had to endure a ton of mistakes by school administration. They made the jump to I-A before the school was ready. They hired Joe Hollis as football coach and AD, which was a complete disaster. This just strengthen the need for an outside scape goat, and ASU has always had UA to blame on their problems, so it intensified.

Now things have begun to turn around, and stAte is working to become a school that doesnt spend half its time bashing UA, but all of its time worrying about itself.

I hate to tell you this, but its their state too.

I never said it wasn't their state bigolhawg. In fact, I'd have zero problems with stAte if they just shut the hell up and stopped blaming UA for everything.

The problem is, that's not happening now, and it prolly will never cease to end.

The goal for the UA Athletic Dept. is to win national championships, and field the best program it can possibly create. Doing that in a state as rural as this one requires massive in-state support.

Arkansas State, as a member of 1-A, is trying to milk away our support. While spending millions of taxpayer $$$, they've turned and are making us the enemy, which they have, sorry, but it's true. UA loses $$$, attendance, and our program suffers greatly if stAte's plans to invade LR and reach higher attendances figures come to reality. There might be a casual ASU fan or two that doesn't have much to gripe about concerning the UA, but they are far and beyond a silent minority. When Indian Stadium's loudest cheer was a score of UA losing, that should tell you something.

Supporting stAte is, in indirect form, hurting the UA. You seem to scream that it doesn't, but myself and THOUSANDS of Razorback fans have given enough proof to show your logic is invalid.

There are basically 2 ways to look at this... you can either hope for stAte to rise as a 1-A school to where they take on UA (which our archives show YOU support bigolhawg), or you can say stAte should go to 1-AA where it's not costing the state MILLIONS of dollars to fund (NOTE: UA Athletic Dept. takes $0 of state money..why we have the Razorback Foundation), and that the UA should remain the state's 1-A power and get the fan base and financial support needed to bring championships back to the Natural State.

As a Razorback fan, I go with the latter, as I think that's better for my school. I'd rather claim the title of national champions then claim the title of state champions, thank you. Your approach, I hate to say, is about helping stAte and hurting the UA, because the UA does not benefit at all from any progress by stAte.

My student ID does a fine of job of displaying my loyalty to the University of Arkansas.

I've made all the points that need to be made in defense of Arkansas State. They have a right to "milk away our support" as Jonesboro is in Arkansas. Especially when UA pulled a game from LR, leaving a void that had to be filled by someone. UCA decided against it, ASU made a fine decision on its own part and moved in.

Never said they didn't have a right.

Just said that as a UA fan, I feel, like most UA fans do, that supporting stAte hurts the Razorbacks.

You can defend stAte all you want, but the above fact remains true and will remain true until stAte moves into 1-AA or quits the fight against UA altogether. Neither has happened, yet.
