Message to recent football alumni
Guys,
I know things around here can get pretty negative toward Coach Bailiff, whom you all obviously have a great deal of respect and affection for. Losing makes people frustrated and frustration can lead to some pretty spirited discussions on the future of the program and coaching staff.
I just want to say that I hope you stick around and continue to give your input. Whether that is providing in-game analysis, comments about the offensive or defensive schemes (speaking of defense ... get some of your former defensive teammates to contribute!), comments about scheduling or financial support for the program, or something else.
At the end of the day, I think football alumni (those that played for Coach Bailiff, as well as older football alumni) have a unique perspective on football and Rice football. Even if I don't always agree with your conclusions, I really value your opinions. As someone who never played football, I have learned a lot from the former players who post on this forum, and that increased knowledge has enriched my football-watching experience!
So please, continue your contributions if you have the time.
I write this because I notice McHargue hasn't posted since 9/11/17, RiceOwl53 has not posted since 8/24/17, and Holder_Owl_84 has only posted once in the past 20 months (albeit on 10/1/17).

RE: Message to recent football alumni
Here, here!!
And I hope all recent football alumni (and all football and other sports' alumni for that matter) are also making their voices heard -- loudly and clearly -- in the current "conversation" and comments regarding the development of Rice's V2C2 strategic plan. I fear that this may be the last chance to save D1 sports (especially football) at Rice.

Agree 100%. One other point that I would add and I suspect almost all would agree with is that Coach Bailiff has been a terrific ambassador for Rice (the same can be said for Coaches Hatfield and Wilson) in many ways. And frankly, there were some great moments on the field (I will never forget the beatdown of UH in 2008 and the bowl game later that season) and despite what to many are very clear and concerning institutional issues, the results just aren't there (can't forget either some of the horrific games in a lot of other years) and it is time to go another direction from a coaching perspective much like it was for Hat and Willis.
