Could've... Should've... Would've...

Didn't.

Deal with it. It is what it is.

Looks like Big12 made the correct decision by not taking Louisville.

I will also say this... If UL somehow does lose its ACC membership, the obvious add is NOT UConn, but Cincinnati. Keeps the Midwest bridge and footprint open, does not duplicate markets (in the NE) and has a solid BB tradition and a better current BB program.

Unfortunately a quarter of the conference faces similar issues...the article mentioned Miami and even the Hurricanes are involved with the FBI Probe-(Recruit Nassir Little...apparent bidding way for 150K with Arizona)

This is a pet peeve of mine but UConn does not duplicate markets. Maybe Hartford/New Haven isn't a big enough market for the ACC to want UConn. But its not like there is a rabid BC or Syracuse fan base in Connecticut.

Oh, I agree and I think that there's less than a "slim to none" chance of UL losing their membership. I'm just saying "IF" they somehow did, I think UC is a more logical addition.

UC should be in a P5 league regardless....as for Louisville I just want a clean break from the old....this is embarrassing...glad Pitino is gone...don't want Jurich back...would not mind if Petrino takes a "SEC job" and start all over

So many things wrong with this article. UL isn't going anywhere.

How did adding Pitt and Syracuse prevent the SEC from raiding the ACC? Not sure about this.

Was the SEC going to raid the ACC for "Clemson, Virginia Tech and FSU"? No.

As a third-party observer whose school would have zero chance of being an ACC invitee should Louisville get the boot, I have to side with UConn here.

UConn doesn't duplicate markets, Syracuse is an upstate NY market, while UConn would draw from the northern part of NYC, solidifying that part of their footprint currently contested by the B1G. Quality of basketball and football don't matter, and UConn is a state flagship institution.

UConn would be a better choice, objectively, for the ACC, though I don't think they ever will get an invitation, not as long as memories of the 2003 lawsuit linger, and they will linger for a long time.

The ACC, especially the Carolina Core, shouldn't really be surprised by what it got with Louisville and I doubt they are. Louisville has been extremely aggressive in its quest to become a true elite athletic program, and that is what the ACC, especially the football schools like FSU and Clemson, wanted. That's what helped silence them about seeking SEC membership.

They didn't want another high-quality academic institution that was weak on the field and court, they wanted a school 100% committed to be an athletic power, meaning top level in hoops and football, and Louisville was sending those signals and achieving those results.

And when a school that isn't a historical power is extremely aggressive, that tends to create a "look the other way" culture, because the emphasis is on getting to that elite level. Schools in that mode often have a philosophy of "you can't make an omelette without breaking some eggs", so eggs have been broken.

The Carolina Core should have known what it was getting in to with Louisville, and I think they made that choice knowing that this kind of outcome was a risk.

Really, even though if asked publicly about it, ACC officials would be critical, behind closed doors, i do NOT think they regret the decision, as Louisville has delivered on what the ACC was looking for, e.g., their football team is sitting there at about #17 in the polls, and has been consistently ranked since they joined.

ACC football, which historically was weakest among the power conferences, has surged in power since Louisville joined.

Navy in football and Georgetown in basketball might be a better choice. Especially Georgetown is not happy in Big East now. Football people and basketball people both get what they want.

The Big 12 signed a Grant of Rights agreement before Maryland and Rutgers joined the Big Ten. So, WVU was off the table when Maryland left, they are off the table now, and will remain off the table until 2024 or 2025. UConn was the only real alternative on the table in 2012 and is probably the best overall expansion candidate for the ACC that is available right now. The Navy/Georgetown idea is interesting, mostly for its potential to move ND closer to full membership. Navy/Villanova would be a similar play with a stronger current hoops program and a new TV market for the ACCN. However, I would let this play out a lot further before considering the possibility of expulsion for UL. In particular, we need to know whether the UL football program is implicated and to what extent.
