I'd rather have New Mexico over SDSU and UMass over SLU.

BYU is the only one that brings worthy numbers, everyone else just flat out no thanks.

C'mon B1 you know this.

we have already made our intentions clear that we want to resign with espn on the exact same deal just with a ton more money

if it expires and goes to the open market, likely means espn doesn't want to pay

Has the amount of money we're looking for been discussed publicly yet?

I believe the Memphis president recently made some remarks in an interview that indicated a range. I want to say is was 8 million each---maybe TripleA remembers the number. I remember it was interesting because it was the second time he had mentioned a number and the more recent comments were higher. I dont think Aresco has ever mentioned a number in public.

Rudd initially said $6-8M a year per school, but recently, somebody (Rudd or our AD) said it possibly could climb to $10M.

My experience is they tend to be optimistic, so I would say $6M might be a good starting point.

Side note...

What is being on ESPN worth to all of you? For example... if ESPN offered us 8m/yr, and Fox sports or someone offered us $10m/yr... do you take that or stay with ESPN?

I think the ESPN exposure is huge for us... but I don't know exactly how I would quantify its value. Thoughts?

10 million, 18 to 120 million is hellve jump
ESPN does not have to pay what AAC it's worth,
just outbid other 3 networks

True. But we also don't have to sell it all to ESPN.

RE: AAC TV Contract with ESPN
if u want to sell inventory in packages, then u need to expand.
VCU & St Lious would be markets that r big enough to help ratings.
also VCU hurts A-10, who right now is battling AAC for #7 [conf rpi]

what do u think it would cost the AAC to purchase Mass FB & [10-15] BB rights
with sch alliance for FB. Mass would help with wknight games & getting 1AA games off sch

Why do any of the networks need to know what the others are initially bidding? They don't, therefore, their initial bids will be higher. In the end of the day, we have stability (no p5 expansion for another 7 to 8 years) and a track record of good ratings. We are also great filler content that can draw eyes as well. Let them fight over us..... in the end of the day, the networks want to make money.....they have more than enough data on our conference to make bids and counter bids against one another after that initial offer.

Depending on which happens first, it could be a sign of which way it goes. AAC improves Bowl games would be a good sign for a better TV deal. Stay status quo, then it could point to less than AAC hopes for in the new TV contract. Or vice-versa.

It does seem ESPN does have a bunch of contracts ending after 2019-20.

but something that is interesting to me is that we are the only ones improving..

byu chose a horrible time to suck, c-usa is somehow getting worse, the mwc top to bottom is getting dramatically worse and the golden goose boise is losing it worth

Recruiting (players AND coaches) is a zero-sum game. For the AAC to win, the G4 must lose... BEAT THE G4, DADGUM IT!

becuase espns only ource of money was from cable?

espn give sling, hulu live, vue alll its content for free? and when espn launches its espn app in 2018 im guessing that'll be free for everyone too

I've researched this quite a bit, and I can tell you:
1. Sling, etc. pay the same per subscriber for ESPN that cable companies do
2. Even though the number of "non-cable" households is increasing, that doesn't mean the number of homes WITH cable/Sling/whatever is decreasing - it isn't. The total number of U.S. homes is increasing, plus most "cord cutters" still end up subscribing to ESPN via some streaming service.

In other words, they CAN still afford to pay (as long as they don't drop too much on the NFL, NBA, etc.)

Did CUSA ever finish their contract negotiations? They started "negotiating" in the Spring and haven't heard anything else about it since then.

Their situation was interesting in that A) there was no money or demand for their games, B) they negotiated a real short 2 year contract last go round and C) they are all over the place, ESPN, CBSSports, BeIN and Stadium (some free channel you can get streaming online in the Pluto App).

They've signed a TV rights deal with Hallmark Channel for $200K per team.

Their games will be aired immediately following the weekly premier of a new holiday, romantic feel-good movie.

Probably about 25% of a football share. That's how it worked under the old Big East.

Bowen said Memphis' President Rudd, SMUs' President, and at least one other AAC President, can't remember which one, were engaged in the 2019 AAC contract re-negotiations with the Networks.

Memphis AD Tom Bowen said on the radio interview, that they were confident AAC schools would receive at least $8M-$10M with the renewed TV Contract currently under negotiation to renew in 2019.

I heard it myself, straight from the horse's mouth on Memphis Talk Radio. "At least $8 - $10 Million/per school, with the new contract."

We've clearly separated ourselves from the G4 Pack.
He was just pulling a number out of his a$$ imho. No way we get that much.
