FAU
So we are a 3 point underdog at home this week against FAU. ESPN has us predicted to win only 2 more games this season. It's time to prove them wrong and start winning this week.

RE: FAU
If we don't find some offense, they'll beat us by much more than 3.

With an extra week to heal and prepare. We should beat FAU. Middle is not as good as you think

Empty Sue has literally been decimated by injuries. The FAU result was not a surprise to many of their fans in the know. MTSU only had five of the original 11 offensive starters from week one.

FAU has a good offense, particularly on the ground, but our defense should be up to the task, at least for awhile.
FAU has two pretty good RBs in Singletary and Howell.
Returning to #1 on the depth chart, QB Jason Driskel is an efficient passer who can run when necessary.
6'1" DeAndre McNeal is the primary go-to WR and an effective weapon but our DBs should not be overmatched.
I do not like the matchup with the Owl TE, 6'5" Harrison Bryant. He is big and fast, and could overwhelm our LBs and overpower over our DBs.

The FAU defense is not particularly good; either against the pass or the run.
This will give us the opportunity to get a sense of where our offense is going.

As stated, we will need to generate some offense or our D will not last through four quarters.
Albany was shut out by Elon Saturday, and UMass' success vs UT was against what subsequently has shown itself to be a Vol squad in total disarray.

Compughter ratings has FAU beating us by 9.
I am not going to predict a score or outcome as I just have no idea at all.

RE: FAU
they've got some speed on offense and use a lot of misdirection. If our defense stays disciplined we should be able to contain them. our offense is a big question mark still in my mind but as 78 pointed out FAU's defense is not great so hopefully they find some rhythm and more importantly the endzone.

RE: FAU
MTSU turned the ball over 4 times and got 0 sacks against FAU. I think ODU will do much better in both categories. FAU does have a good running game but our linebackers have already proven that they are better than we thought. Steven Williams may never play in a tougher game/situation than he did last weekend at VT so things will only get better from here. He is very poised and should be able to be very effective against a below average FAU defense.

Yes.
I am not worried about Williams.

However, our OL has underperformed, as has our rushing game.

In the past when those things broke down, both for TH and DW, we had at least one, (and often two), sure handed go-to wide receiver that, along with stellar QB play, could bail us out and move the offense. Nick Mayers, Larry Pinkard, Zach Pascal, Jonathan Duhart....
Those guys would go up and fight for tha ball and make the catch even against fast DBs who could keep up. They then often drew double coverage allowing other things to open up.

As of yet none of our WRs have shown that ability. We will need that going forward, or all the Williams brilliance in the world will be for naught.

RE: FAU
Probably all coach talk but Wilder retracted his statement that we would be going back to the spread offenses with SW. Wilder stated that him and Scott have decided to stick with the run first and hope it opens up the passing game.

RE: FAU
Actually, I was impressed with out pass protection against VT. It was the best performance of the year against the best defense they've ever faced. Our run blocking leaves a lot to be desired, but it's hard to judge against VT.

That does not sound like good news. My guess it is means that our receivers are not good enough to make the spread work. Or that Williams isn't, but I don't think that's the case.

Our maybe Coach Wilder wants to keep FAU confused on what to expect. Not that any Coach would do that...

Howdy, not to be quarrelsome but I would make it the next 4 games with the way North Texas is coming on. Then after that run we get a breather with UNCC.

Agreed. We go 2-2 we are set up well for a bowl game. We go 4-0 and we should win the conference.

RE: FAU
I really think how we perform against FAU will determine the rest of our season. A win sets us up nicely in conference and proves we have the skills to compete with at least the middle of CUSA. We hopefully then have wins on the schedule against UNC CH, Rice and FIU. With a victory over FAU, my confidence in beating those other three goes up, and winning against FAU and those three gets us a bowl. Losing to FAU, makes losing to Rice or FIU much more likely and makes pulling and upset over Marshall, WKU or MTSU seem much less possible. We need a very loud, full and supportive crowd on Saturday night. This game is very, very important.
