Have we run more than a couple plays for Melvin in any games. I keep hearing we added a TE and a playbook. Still waiting for that to become the weapon fans have hoped it would be. Melvin is a stud player, he needs more touches.

Does the strategy reset back to the ol' spread factor against that though?

You are the one taking things too far. Nice job adding to the discussion. You don't add any value.

What discussion? You have five talking points you rotate:

1- Why does the OC call these plays? He sucks.
2- Our recruiting sucks, Wilder sucks for not recruiting non-sucky players
3- We suck (non-specific)
4- I secretly love Grommet
5- We're no good and won't make a bowl game.

SSDD. Get a new schtick.

I will not stand idly by while you disparage our beloved Grommet. He absolutely does add value. Also, he reminds me of the classic "Wallace and Gromit"

I would have given you $50 if you had posted W&G saying the sky is falling.

I appreciate the kind words, broski! If I knew how to do the rep thing I'd hit you up.

Who said anything like that ? I said it was a must win game. A loss against FAU would put our Bowl chances at serious risk. How is that the sky is falling ? I also never said anything about OC. I said our recruiting is lacking....the proof is we haven't had a top 5 recruiting class ever. Most are rated 9-12. Never said we suck. Never said we would not make a bowl. I did say that we continually get our asses handed to us against decent teams. You all are way to sensitive and can't take an objective view.

Given the issues with our offense so far this year, it is not a stretch to consider the FAU game must-win as it relates to our bowl aspirations. It is basic arithmetic, especially given the resurgence of Marshall, and the likelyhood of Empty Sue returning Stockstill and other offensive starters by the time our game comes around.

Our recruiting is also a legitimate concern. There are many variables, including the number of available spots and differences in the way the various services compute the total points.
However, except for an anomalous #2 by 247 (we had 33 recruits, 12 of which were rated 3 star) in 2014, we have otherwise not ever had even a top 10 CUSA recruiting class, much less top 5; as ranked by 247, Scout, and Rivals.
Even if there are good reasons for the numbers, and debate about the math leading to the service results (and there are other services as well), I think that recruiting is worthy of discussion.

Seems like we have overachieved for never having a top 10 class. Either the ratings are not that accurate or our coaching staff is good at developing talent.

Likely some of both, although our record against + .500 teams might be cause for debate as to the assessment of "over achieving"

I want the Vaughn we saw the first year we took the team to Houston to play Rice. He was a beast that game and if we can get that guy back, the offense will get a real boost.

Seems to me we about to find out about to find out how we have recruited. We have come to that point where we will see if our backups can get the job done. Good depth is a key to a football team. What a find at Quarterback. Lets see if the new wide receivers and running backs can get the job done. I wish we had more depth at offensive line but we will just have to make do. Hope the new guys can get it done. At least they are getting a chance.

Pretty well. MTSU and WKY are typically not the cream of the crop recruiting wise.

The dirty little 247 secret is they really don't pay attention to recruiting at our level.

Vaughn has talent, but unfortunately is a tweener. He wasn't big enough to be a true TE weapon and was too slow to be a significant weapon on the outside. He appears to have slimmed down (and got ripped up) this offseason so it will be interesting to see how they use him. I'm assuming kind of like an H-back type role.

It used to be a huge fundraiser for the Shriners that drew tens of thousands. It stared off featuring two big time college teams coming to Norfolk to play. By the time it ended (for a while) it was drawing half the crowd and featured two FCS teams coming to Norfolk, and basically became a big party weekend for the then football-less ODU campus. It has a lot of history and tradition, but most of it has since passed. They revived it for a few years at CNU for D3 football and then brought it back to ODU when football came back to campus here. Basically, they add a dollar to the cost of every ticket and donate it to the shriners.

Interesting. You guys are the only visiting team to win the Oyster bowl since ODU's been playing football.

Good. Is the CUSA commissioner going to attend? This seems like it's in her comfort zone.
