That’s fair, but I consider that using last year as a data point is useful in how the USM staff approached defending/attacking NT. North Texas was able to run in 2016 when that was about all we could do successfully.

The Eagles have a lot of the same secondary and the defensive scheme is the same so it isn’t completely wasteful to take a peek at last year for perspective.

UTSA scored much easier on Southern than did Southern Miss. NT scored much easier on Lamar, too. Those aren’t great predictors but they give me a little insight.

We were up 42-0 halfway through the 2nd quarter. How bad was we supposed to beat up on them before pulling starters and working younger players in. Also, Our coach came from the SWAC and was friends with a lot of guys on Southern's staff so I don't think they wanted to embarrass them too bad.

Excellent question. Other than the Southern game Ito hasn't broke out. Teams have focused on Ito and committed to not letting Ito beating them ie Kentucky. It has opened up other parts of the game but unfortunately we've not taken full advantage. Once the O gels we'll be hard to beat until then, can't blame a team strategy of no Ito

Correction: ULM game Ito broke out for over 200. Southern and KY he had less than 80 yards

I "believe" we have every reason to be optimistic, after slowly pulling away from the ELLLLLLLLLLLLOS debacle and it's after effects.....BUT....I certainly don't think we're any more overly optimistic than YOU!

USM should be ashamed of losing to a bottom feeder at home. Maybe they are overrated.
