If they can't talk about that they aren't going to talk about the results of a bowl game that ended at midnight on the west coast.
People remember wins over name P5 programs and ranked G5 teams. It really doesn't matter if it's a bowl or regular season. Even more so if those teams have lots of tradition.
And it's something worth writing about, if the Rockford Register Star still has a writer.
Every body agrees it's worth writing about. It starts with winning, filling seats, and getting the Huskie Hum going. Most likely bigger than one or two variables why we don't get the exposure we used to or rightfully deserve. Beating NU is huge, as are the other teams we beat and picked not too. I never said flyspeck with regards to NU. We have to win games, most of them, and also the big games like FSU. We want to be the next Boise we have to win the big games, and to be frank, have to win our conference every year for a while. We took huge steps forward, have to take it further to be totally respected. Right now we are known to be dangerous and a risky team to play, (in a sub par conference) we have to become feared. Boise State has been feared. I love my Huskies and was on the field 30 years ago at NU, I know what that win meant to fans, players, and program. I am thinking bigger picture. I think growing our school's reputation is equally important and would help grow athletics. To me it's all correlated, but winning on a consistent basis is essential.
I guess I meant that we would have gotten better coverage for the Nebraska game in earlier years with a win like that, even if the team wasn't winning that many games.
Totally agree....

That's close enough to be a rounding error.

A Wildcat Huskie game would be competitive but NIU would beat Illinois by 21 right now. Illinois D cannot stop anybody

Since we can't get them to Huskie Stadium maybe we can meet NU in a bowl.

Really cool to see Coach Doeren taking NC State to a national powerhouse. I know many doubted if he could, but I knew this guy was a difference maker, one of the best coaches in the nation.

That's why I wanted them to fire him so we could bring him back but they were patient and it paid off big time. He's done a great job of recruiting and finding transfer QBs instead of rolling the dice with young QBs. Much better job than most teams that sign transfer QBs. I was extremely critical of him when the defensive changes came two games later than when I was calling for it in 2010 but the changes did come and we really took off.

It is much easier to get transfer QBs to come to you at the P5 level. They all seem to want to go to the "name" schools so they can get to the NFL. Doesn't hurt that NC State is considered QB University.

He's chosen the right one's to target and bring on board and that's a very tough task. Great job by Doeren and his staff. He's got them 5-1 and rolling. That atmosphere is something they haven't seen in a long time. His next contract is going to be huge!

Agree. Credit NC State for their patience with Dave Doeren.
2013 3-9. Conference 0-8
2014. 8-5. 3-5
2015. 7-6. 3-5
2016. 7-6. 3-5
After 4 years of rebuilding he is 5-1. And 3-0.
I hope this year continues to be a magical one similar to his NIU years.
On this board many fans seem to unrealistically like to see results immediately.

Who you crappin, MD? Day after day you spew hatred for Carey and you never give him a break or the time it takes grow as a head coach and build a team in gis image.
I'm no Carey lover and actually despise his clock mgmt. skills, but at least give him his due.
Go support ncst and leave us alone.

RE: State of Illinois football
Truthfully the season is too young to predict NC State's success.
Should they beat Notre Dame, they still have to face Clemson.
If NC State's fans wanted a team that could rival Clemson then arguably Dave Doeren
Has not met that lofty criteria.
If NC State's goal was to have a team that could have a winning conference record but in a different universe to Clemson, then after 4 years in Year 5 they would hopefully have gotten their wish.
Clearly we as NIU fans can learn some patience from NC State.

Wouldn't call them a powerhouse. For one thing, FSU is down this year.

No one expects Doeren to win a national title. The fact they're relevant is a tremendous source of pride for them. If he even sniffs the playoffs in the next few years, he can stay in Raleigh for as long as he wants.

Agree with you 007. I think it is too early for the Dave Doeren coronation!
He lost to South Carolina whom already have two losses(KY & Texas A&M).
South Carolina is not a power house.
He hopefully might get four more wins, at most 5.(If he beats Notre Dame)
