Also you are correct about the old Temple stadium. The property was demolished and sold to a church. Soccer, etc was moved to Ambler. A year ago Temple acquired a closed high school near the main campus and built new playing fields for soccer and field hockey. Sadly the baseball and softball teams were discontinued.
The old Temple stadium was too far from campus. It's a trip very similar to going to the NFL stadium. But I will admit that it was better than nothing.
I would say that the savings that Temple would get from a campus stadium could pay for itself in only 30 years, 50 at the most.

Say that Temple University builds a $130 million stadium with revenue bonds at 5% interest. That's $6.5 million per year in debt service. How does Temple do that when there are only six home games per year and the operating costs of maybe $2 million per year (lighting, insurance, turf maintenance and replacement, etc.) add even more cost. Then, after 30 years, Temple has to write $130 million in checks to pay off the principal. New stadium is Not gonna happen unless you have a Boone Pickens-type alum willing to fork over $50-$100 million as an outright gift.
The debt service amount depends on how much borrowing is required.

New lease proposed by Eagles is Around $3M a year plus operating costs. Did I mention Temple doesn't receive any revenue for parking and only 10% of concessions sold on game day?

I became fed up two decades ago with the public handouts given to Billionaire professional sports to subsidize multi-millionaire players. To see this extortion by the Eagles infuriates me as if I were an alumnus of Temple.

I confess to not understanding the thought process of living in Philly, but I honestly do not see how true fans of the Owls can support the Eagles. I really don't.

I don't support the Eagles any more. It started with "Father of the Year" Andy Reid, continued with the bold move of hiring a dog killer who, to make matters worse, was not very good, and culminated with the greed shown to the Owls.

BUT, I think the great majority of local Owls fans do support the Eagles. NFL home teams are a STRONG force of fan loyalty - a true lesson for these interesting political times.

And potentially S&P credit rating. For example, Pennsylvania's credit rating was just lowered to the lowest level in 39 years. As the article below states, "What that translates to for taxpayers is a higher cost for the state to borrow money.". I have no idea if this affects Temple's borrowing or not.

Couldn't agree with this ^^^ more

There currently many challenges facing Temple but i honestly believe they'll eventually push the new stadium approval through.

RE: Temple still pursuing stadium .... article link ....
I take a different stance than most when looking at the Temple stadium issue. I used to go to the old stadium as a kid back in the day. I then started going to games at Vet Stadium as a teen. Then on to Franklin Field and now the Linc as a TU graduate.

My stance is that the Linc would be great for Temple if we could fill the stadium week in and out. I look on TV and see programs such as Clemson and Penn State filling big stadiums. But that's not Temple and never will be.

So a 35k on campus stadium makes sense to me at this point. It's something that we can fill every week. This would improve the game day atmosphere and bring out students in the numbers that we need. It would give us a true homefield advantage and help with our recruiting.

Additionally it would help with a badly needed upgrade to the campus. The icing on the cake is that it will add $2 or $3 million profit to our bottom line instead of losing money every year down at the Linc.
So I say thank you to the Eagles but it's time to move on. No animosity at all with the Eagles. Besides we may need their stadium again if we ever have a 60k plus crown. Maybe Oklahoma?

I enjoy Temple games at the LINC. The Sports Complex is a great place to tailgate whether you are there to watch Temple, the Eagles, or the Phillies. The LINC is a great place to watch a football game too and you always have the Verizon Center to go to after the game for something to eat if you want. Don't know where you are going to enjoy the pregame and post game festivities on the Temple campus due to a parking problem though. Any way start greasing those Philly palms and get the job done. Your rental agreement is done in 2019 and I don't see any favorable terms coming forth from the Eagles Hierarchy any time soon since the Eagles Management Team didn't want you there at all to begin with. 07-coffee3 04-cheers

I'm not familiar with the full situation, but would Citizen's bank park be willing to take Temple in?

Stadium control becomes an issue if the Phillies (cough, cough) get in to the post season.

Not this year - they just fired their manager for the outstanding season the Phillies had. I did get to the Philly Fanatic Day this year though. 07-coffee3

Isn't it Philly Phanatic Day? At least they used to call him Phantic. That said, multi-purpose stadiums are not ideal when it comes to changing over from one sport to the next. It's costly as well. Who pays for the cost, the Phillies, Temple, or both?

I'd rather stay at the Linc than play in a baseball stadium.
