Fallout from federal investigation: Alabama assoc. AD resigns
Kobie Baker was connected to one of the "advisors" arrested on Tuesday.
Expect more of these shoes to drop at various schools.

Quote:Although Baker was not charged with a crime in the recent FBI roundup of figures allegedly connected with corruption in college basketball, UA acted in the belief that he was involved in a meeting with Atlanta-based advisor Rashan Michel who was arrested on Tuesday as part of an FBI sting operation.
According to the charges released yesterday by the United States Attorney Office in the Southern District of New York, Michel met with an unidentified “school administrator” who accepted a $5,000 payment and arranged an August meeting with the “father of a highly regarded incoming freshman” from the Atlanta area, along with Michel and a cooperating federal witness listed as CW-1.
An additional $10,000 was allegedly given to Michel at that meeting, and was to be given to the staff member for his “influence” in steering the player.
The Tuscaloosa News learned Wednesday that UA believed Baker to be the “staff member” identified. The player’s father was not identified. Alabama recruited highly-rated freshman Collin Sexton from the Atlanta area last season.
Also, hat tip to Andy Staples for pointing out where Baker worked before he was at Alabama. This is one example of why the FBI didn't let the NCAA know about its investigation...
Quote:Prior to joining Avery Johnson’s staff in 2015, Baker was the assistant director of enforcement for basketball development at the NCAA. He was also the associate director of amateurism certification at the NCAA.

My hope is that it doesn't run any deeper than that although I wouldn't be shocked if it did.
Kudos to Greg Byrne for getting on top of it.

What other option did he have?

Not any good ones, but he could have ignored it and hoped the FBI didn't sniff Baker's trail. It would have been irresponsible, but there are some who think that way. Jurich seems to be a good example.

Word is the administrator had a meeting with one of the indicted in Atlanta.
That's quite a cloud.

Yes. Any of the unnamed people in one of these federal indictments have a cloud hanging over them. Whether the prosecutors called them an unidentified "school administrator" or "Coach-2", it's not going to take long for folks to figure out who all of those people are.

They are also saying some big name coaches could get hit. There is not many big name coaches left in the hoops side. Could that mean football?

You wish.
But, stoking the forum rumor mill will not help you.
