Why should the firing of the AD affect the buyout of the football coach?

Petrino must of had it written into his contract. Jurich thought it wouldn't matter because he wasn't going anywhere.

I guess Jurich had that much power. He hired Petrino 2 times.

Many new ADs want there people not the ones from the previous administration. Provides security or abilty for the coach to leave if the AD that hired is fired.

I'm sure Petrino wanted the ability to leave Louisville if they hired an AD he didn't like.

Possibly but I think standard operating procedure is for Football Factory schools to get Sugar Daddies' money and to use bag men to deliver cash out of trunks of cars.

What the point the OP was making the buyout being cut back in half will make it much easier for Petrino to bolt...his top cover is gone. When your "protector" leaves you best win a crap ton of games or get outta of Dodge. Petrino strikes me as a guy who'll "leave at a drop of a hat".

Like if Jeff Long was hired as the AD for Louisville.
