$37,704,125: What Louisville would pay Rick Pitino from today on, not including bonuses, if he finished his contract thru 2026.

Wow-sers.

Would this not constitute a fireable offense? I have no idea what his contract stipulates, but I would think an FBI investigation and possible death penalty should negate the money owed over the next decade.

He hasn't been directly linked yet, only an assistant. So it would require a clause in the contract specifically about that.

Most contracts have a "morals clause." They are generally pretty broad in scope so they are often challenged. As CEO of MBB with 2 major scandals, I don't see a lot of room to challenge the firing.

Funny thing for those cheering about Louisville. Jurich and Pitino now have nothing to lose. They are free as a bird to spill the beans on other programs they were competeing with on players and exposing schools ways they landed player X away from Louisville or ADIDAS to a Nike or UA school. This goes way deep in top teir basketball programs. Skeletons are in many closets in athletics.

Like I said in another thread, Louisville just removed any doubts they're a toxic, dirty athletic program. They should thank their lucky stars they got the last ticket to the P5, otherwise no other P5 conference would consider them for membership, even the dysfunctional Big XII.

There is a reason Texas repeatedly nixed them to the Big 12

The FBI is involved. They've still got more than their jobs to lose.

I wonder if the ACC regrets that decision. It should've been UConn from the beginning. Texas might have known something because they were on record they didn't want anything to do with Louisville.

Morals clause.... for a college basketball coach.

Now THAT'S funny, I don't care who you are.

Crippling sanctions are possible, but not likely.

Most likely the affected schools throw some people under the busses, plead ignorance, and business resumes as normal but toned down.

With the FBI involved, there's no way the Death Penalty will not be considered.

Louisville did the same thing SMU did. They were caught red-handed committing major violations only a month after being put on probation.

RE: Day of Reckoning for Louisville
"Pitino’s attorney, Steve Pence, told the Louisville Courier-Journal that the coach had been placed on administrative leave Wednesday and that he had been “effectively fired.” Pitino’s contract says he must be given 10 days’ notice of his termination, which only can be decided by a vote of the Louisville athletic department’s Board of Directors, and that Pitino must be allowed to “present evidence” in his defense over that 10-day span."

"Depending on the cause of his dismissal, Jurich may have to be given 30 days’ notice of his dismissal, according to WRDB’s Chris Otts"

THEY ARE TOAST!

Jurich's span of power is just amazing. And you can tell he's not just any leader for athletics. Now...you wonder if this guy ever works again. The bit about his daughter getting a gig at Adidas...done.

The problem is that he stayed at Louisville for too long. He should've applied for the Big XII commissioner job back in 2012.

IF...IF...Louisville gets the death penalty. Does the ACC kick them out then too?
