I believe players should be able to make money off their own names, the NCAA has an out of date system. Today could change the world of college athletics.
the day is coming when D1 athletes will all be unionized and they will tell the schools how the bread is buttered. it is inevitable because of the amount of money involved. there will a wide wide gap between those schools at the top big money pay for play programs and the rest of us who will have the more traditional rah rah type college sports programs of old. my school will certainly be in the second group and my interest in the others will continue to dwindle as it has for the NBA and is beginning to for the NFL. IMHO
This investigation could have far reaching results. Some schools have been out of control with their athletic budgets, income and expenses. They make a fortune off these kids and, yes, they get an education, but the schools are getting so much more then the kids. In the end, college sports, and pro sports, may look completely different.

I don't see anything about Avery resigning. One of the staff, Kobie Baker did.

I actually don't see that ever happening. They get away with it now under the guise of a non-profit university environment and any profits go back to the university. When what you describe would be proposed, I think there are many government entities that would like to have their tax percentage of a obvious business entity. As a G5 school who likely would be directly impacted by that situation much more harshly than the P5 schools, I think many of the G5 group would be complaining to their legislative delegations. JMO

Saw it on a local sports station last night . . . No real details other than the announcement . . . Could be they got it wrong . . . Did a google search after seeing your post, and all I found was the news about the Assistant . . .
. . . Must have been "fake news."
And FWIW: Glad the "Little General" is still there.

wasnt it only a couple of years ago that athletes at gatech or someplace tried to unionize and many athletes around the country chimed in in favor of it and now everybody pays "cost of attendance". once started in this direction there is no way to turn back and every so often it will be ramped up a notch. kinda like when income tax was started and it was 1% and optional..as G5 schools, none of us are the flagship school of a state so most likely dont have much clout and few big name fans in state governments, many of which show only a token interest in the improvement and advancement of their local G5's.

Only the assistant who was involved with something like internal compliance resigned. Avery is still there, but the AD announced a complete review of the basketball program is taking place.

Maybe we can pay them, and then charge them the $20K per year to attend school.

This will widen the gap between the P5 and everyone else. And there may be some current P5 schools that get left behind.

RE: Some Interesting NCAA Basketball News
Not surprised that there's a lag in any comment from The NCAA. This is a Federal Investigation, one that's not yet complete. I wouldn't even assume that The NCAA is yet privy to all the facts. Probably smart of them to be quiet, let the investigation proceed to completion, then comment/penalize after ALL the chips have fallen . . . IMO.
In the event they do feel the need to comment before the Feds are through, I would expect something very generic.

RE: Some Interesting NCAA Basketball News
Would it be NCAA destroying if it were found out that someone in that office was involved???
Petino has now been named, I would guess this will end his claimed legal action against Louisville for wrongful termination.

Mohajir gave an interesting interview today where he basically said that AAU needs to be eliminated.

That's a huge IF . . .
And even IF it were the case, a head or two might roll, but The NCAA isn't going anywhere. IMO
Supposition about involvement aside. The fact that The Feds have to come in and clean up this mess for them (NCAA) doesn't cast them in a very favorable light.
