The NCAA will say they don't have jurisdiction over Federal criminal matters. Sooo, "live, tonight, 9pm on ESPN, Syracuse vs. Louisville. Don't miss it!!!"

No question they will. All they see and care about are $$$.

And nothing will really change as long as these corrupt shoe companies, tv networks and aau handlers remain untouched.

Auburn has been horrible in basketball for most of its history and hiring Pearl was their shortcut to "prominence". How's that gonna work for them now?

It seems to be working well for them. Every sports outlet in the country has an article about them today, and the season hasn't even started yet. 02-13-banana

Let's assume for a second that the NCAA has a semblance of a backbone.

The NCAA will say they don't have jurisdiction over Federal criminal matters. Sooo, "live, tonight, 9pm on ESPN, Syracuse vs. Louisville. Don't miss it!!!"

You just beat me to this type of post. Isn't that basically what the NCAA stated position is with respect to the UNC situation? - It's school wide so it's not just the athletes so it's out of our jurisdiction. The NCAA has the backbone of a dead amoeba in these matters, especially if it involves a major P_5 program - so, yes, Bellarmine may get the death penalty. SAD!

You know how fans sometimes get mad at Mick for quickly cutting ties on highly rated recruits. Yeah, about that......

This x1000

Oh geez. Is this the latest excuse we're going with for how/ why, Mick, can't recruit some of the better kids out there? Accepting this as rational means implicitly suggesting that all highly rated kids require these types of perks. Until we see evidence of this, I'll just keep on 03-zzz

On another note, ol buddy at Auburn can't stay away from drama. Get canned at Tenn for cheating, no lessons learned, nor fux given....participate all over again at Auburn.

mc

Oh, please. Good business if you want to avoid a for cause determination at a school that is not a blue blood cash cow for the NCAA and TV execs.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure we bend rules like everyone in the business from time to time but Mick has put phone numbers on ignore regarding recruits who had reps dialing for dinero. Good for him.

People will roll over and start naming names and details to avoid long jail sentences. This isn't the NCAA's fantasy-land anymore; welcome to real life, bozos.

At the end of the day, the NCAA will still have to dole out punishment to the individual schools. Even if people go to jail over this, call me skeptical about the NCAA handing down real/meaningful punishment (and no, I'm not talking hefty fines) to the schools involved. I'll need to see it before I believe it.

I'll give Bill Cunningham some (incredibly rare) kudos for this likely half serious speculation he made on air a moment ago:

"Maybe UC in the ACC? Louisville... OUT."

I'm inclined to agree; depending on how this plays out for the dirty birds, there may be a distant glimmer of hope for us to take our rightful place in the ACC. A glimmer so faint that it requires advanced scientific equipment to detect, but a glimmer nonetheless.

At this point I expect the NCAA to punish Louisville by giving them a scholarship limitation ( that will be lifted early), and a 2 or 3 year NCAA tourney suspension. They will get these decreased penalties because UL will "proactively" fire their basketball staff and AD.

I've honestly gone from growing up a big fan of college hoops to pretty much hating the sport. College Basketball recruiting is probably the most disgusting thing in all of sports. The handlers, the fraudsters, the shoe companies, the TV networks, the hangers on, the scam artists. It's just absolutely disgusting.

Coaches make millions, assistant coaches and ADs make hundreds of thousands, and on down the line. But the players get a few years towards a criminal justice degree, and when they do find a way to get cash for the value they provide, it's a damn federal crime. As is often the case, the real scandal is what's legal.

Faux NCAA press release "We have no comment on matters that are the subject of an on going criminal investigation. The NCAA encourages and expects the highest level of integrity from our member institutions."

Correct me if I'm wrong but at this point Louisville hasn't been accused of anything. Could be as simple as this kid was choosing between UL and another school and Adidas wanted this kid at an Adidas school.

Not saying that's likely but perhaps we should wait until they're accused of something before giving the death penalty.

What? The university's interim president issued a statement saying the following: "Today, the University of Louisville received notice that it is included in a federal investigation involving criminal activity related to men’s basketball recruiting."

Ok, no one has been convicted but to say they haven't been accused of anything is borderline trolling.

Does anyone believe that Adidas is the only shoe company involved in this type of practice?

All this talk makes me think back to the 1994 movie Blue Chips. How great will it be if one of the coaches gave a speech today like Nick Nolte delivered at the end of the movie

The FBI affidavit says they have videotape evidence of a UofL asst coach offering bribes in a Las Vegas hotel room.

After the FBI sorts everything out, the NCAA may step in. It'll be a while before anything happens, but UofL fans should be a little scared, I'd think.
