RE: Sun Belt Academic Rankings
Ehhh nice to be near the top but until we expand our doctoral programs and get properly funded from the BOR we are stuck in neutral.
I cant believe as much as the state has grown we have the same three non medical research universities but that is what you get when you have a BOR only interested in funding and protecting two schools.

Unfortunately with Augusta University having a public medical school just north of us, the BOR isn't likely to grant us that magic. However, since we are now tied directly into Savannah, if the city requested a medical school we'd be first in line and the implementation would be seamless since we're already numero uno in the state in Nursing. Anything is possible and our new campus is Savannah is going to help us a lot moving forward. The only major difference we have with State as far as these Rankings go is research capacity but that will soon change.

RE: Sun Belt Academic Rankings
These metrics seem ... fluffy:
Difficulty - Academic rigor is estimated based on how difficult it is to get an "A" at the university. An estimated GPA at the university is calculated for the average US Student. University grade inflation, average GPA, and STEM density are factors.
Smartest - University that can field the highest scoring students based on the average US University size. Higher Smartest Rank = "Smartest for the Average University"
Brainpower - The average "smartest" rank using 5 reference populations (CalTech, MIT, Stanford, GaTech and Berkeley). Higher Brainpower Rank = "Higher Density of Smart Students". The university ranked higher can mathematically field 'X' number of smarter students than universities ranked below them.

Every college ranking is "fluffy." They all have different methodologies and standards to rank schools. US News is especially fluffy and schools pay to be included in the report. US News only gets prestige as a ranking because they were the first ones to do it

They should all be taken with a grain of salt.
Example: GS gets hurt in the Forbes rankings because it's listed as a more expensive school than Georgia Tech and UGA (which is ridiculous). I've seen some college reference materials show GS as more expensive than some private schools, which is laughable.

If you want a med. school you could just do like a&m did when they decided they wanted to be a law school too, they bought one from Texas Wesleyan in fort worth.

Some of these categories are really, really dumb. Namely, the brainpower and difficulty ones.

UTA with nearly 10,000 in engineering programs and that many also in the school of nursing, I am assuming that is what they mean by "niche" school.

RE: Sun Belt Academic Rankings
The only rankings that carry any weight are the US News rankings, and even those are basically BS. Outside of maybe 10-15 universities in the country, it matters more what you study and graduate with, than where you got that degree. Even schools focused on law and medicine, careers people hold in high esteem, care more about your GPA, LSAT, and MCAT scores versus where that diploma came from. When I was getting my MSN-Nurse Practitioner, I shared clinical sites with people from Georgetown, and I was going to UTEP. One school was $40k a year, the other school was $6k a year, for literally the exact same experience. We all ended up landing jobs locally with similar pay and benefits. Total waste.
Not to trash our conference, but until NMSU joined in the early 2000's, I didn't know half of these schools even existed, and my guess is people attending many of the schools I was oblivious to, had no clue NMSU existed either. Whenever I'm on the east coast, I get surprised looks from people that seem to think New Mexico is another country, or they ask if you need a visa to go there. It's mindblowing. Watch any broadcast featuring NMSU or UNM and notice how the announcers interchange the two schools.
