I'm not sure that Bruce Pearl can survive either.

Rick pitino and Bruce Pearl might be out of the college ranks. one competes in state for recruits with Kentucky and one competes in conference with Kentucky.

It would not surprise me at all that Calipari helped facilitate this in someway. Notice that Kentucky has not been mentioned at all in all this.

There is a lot more to come. I hope this somehow spreads to football.

Scarbinski tweets:

The FBI shows I had a blind spot where Chuck Person was concerned. Mark Ingram didn't. UAB's better for it

This is precisely why they don't do the death penalty anymore.

They don't give the death penalty anymore because it is bad for business. The NCAA doesn't give a **** about the schools or student athletes, but the almighty dollar matters. If we pulled the same crap UNC, Louisville, or Miami did we would be lucky to have a bowl ban of less than five years. It's a complicated issue when you give them the death penalty because it effects entire conferences, and in turn their tv money.

My memory fails me about the SMU "Death penalty" and when the SWC died. Did one have anything (timewise) to do with the other?

Should UAB consider cancelling the December 9th game against Auburn? Is that sensible and within reason?

No. They will likely be without a coach and have a mass player transfer. It's a win over an in-state foe from a superior conference (if we can't win it, well we learn something else about ourselves).

Why in the world would that happen?

The schedule is set and in contract. It wouldn't be a cancellation, but a forfeit by UAB. If UAB is going to refuse to play programs that cheat, we aren't going to have a schedule.

Yes and no. The SMU Death Penalty happened near the end of the SWC, and it certainly didn't help matters any, but the conference largely died because of two issues. One was repeated NCAA violations. There were only three teams in the conference that didn't face NCAA sanctions through the 1980's. Once a team was not able to go to bowl games or faced recruiting sanctions you started to get people turning in other schools. It got to the point that Ed Fowler at the Houston Chronicle started to refer to the SWC as the "Society for Wrongdoing and Corruption". Some of the best Texas recruits started to leave for other conferences where they could be on TV and go to bowl games, and that was a serious blow.

The other big issue was television. All the schools in the SWC were in Texas with the exception of Arkansas. TV wanted more area, more fans and more eyeballs. Eventually most of the conference combined with members of the Big Eight to form the Big Twelve conference.

No, if our nose is clean we should use is as an example to show others how to run a clean program.

Bingo. We could beat them fully staffed and that says a lot about our coaches and team.

Because the NCAA tip line was going unnoticed or unpunished or unresearched.

Pitino is going down, and probably today. Here's the kicker. Hold on to your shorts.

$44 million buyout. To coach players who can't be paid.

Yeah, he's probably going to be fired for cause, if UL can find a way to make that stick, but if it's a settlement... $44m.
