I know some USM fans don't want to hear this, but North Texas will move the ball and put up some points. Yes, Southern Miss has a good defense, and they will slow down the Mean Green offense, but they are not going to shut it down.

This game will come down to the North Texas secondary. If they don't see great improvement over last weeks performance against UAB, North Texas will lose. I believe personnel changes at the corner position will improve the unit, but I'm not sure if it will improve enough to allow the defensive front time to get to Griggs on passing downs.

One thing is certain... the winner will most likely end the season bowl eligible, and the loser will have a hard time finishing in the top half of the conference.

I expect a very good game, and I think there are only two possible ways it plays out...

Most likely (the NT secondary continues to struggle)- Southern Miss wins a close game with both teams scoring in the low 30's

Less Likely (the NT secondary improves and defends the deep ball)- North Texas scores in the high 30's and USM finishes with in the 10's.

Texas guys are still thinking we are an ELLLLLLLLLLLLOS type-team (since they beat us without Mullens last year), not a typical Southern Miss team of the past, which we may well be (jury still out howevah).

yeah, should be a good test to see how far we are on either side of that pendulum. im thinking this USM team is a good 80% of our historical USM teams (maybe more). which SHOULD be enough for this game if so. of course, after going through Eloss, nothing could really surprise me. ive been VERY pleased with this team so far though. they have surpassed my expectations with their overall play (with Griggs in the game). im still pissed they played Neon the entire first half to lose the UK game and potentially ruin one of the best seasons we have ever had.

And we are not the team that beat you last season either. We will have both Mason Fine and Jeffery Wilson for this game. Neither touched the field in last years game with USM. No one on our side is slighting USM. We just know the capabilities of our offense and half of our defense.

The good news is by this time tomorrow night, we will have a pretty good idea about how good both teams really are.

Eagles vs Eagles. This is gonna be great!

For the record... North Texas is currently 3-1 against Southern Miss since we joined C-USA in 2013. I'm not saying we will win tomorrow. In fact, we shouldn't. But, there is slight chance we could win and win big.
