Why does Texas need UH? For your own self worth?
UT values partnerships and conference members who don't have $25+ million in student subsidies to fund the athletic programs.
Fix that and you have a true argument. You guys want UT/A&M bad enough, ask them for a 1 and done at their home stadium. 1 and done' aren't good enough--- go play TX State, Texas Southern and Rice.
"Partnerships"?
As luck and fate would have it, Texas Tech had some very powerful members of the legislature," said former Tech AD Bob Bockrath. "Candidly, if not for the influence, it'd be the Big 10 — that's taken, so some other name. I don't think Texas and A&M saw Tech and Baylor as equal partners.

At the end of the day, Tech got in the Big 12. Tech was also among schools that got a PAC invite back in 2010. I would say Tech has a partnership with UT.
Hahaha... The only thing tortilla has a partnership with is lubbock and their massive giant crappy market.

The tortillas in Lubbock get to play in a Power conference along with other crappy college towns.
I'm sorry Houston wasn't invited to our crappy college town party.

despite all of the back and forth on this thread I hope we can all agree that Tech can go **** themselves and that, while they may be in the Big XII, they do still have to live in that shithole they call Lubbock.

Memphis fans were excited they stole Tubby Smith from Texas Tech. How did that work out?
Shitholes like Lubbock make college football fun. I can go to Houston or Memphis but I can't watch my team play there unless it's a bowl game or a featured game at NRG.
Small shitholes like Tuscaloosa and College Station make college football fun. Fans travel to those shitholes to see their team play
Edit: If given the opportunity, I bet Memphis fans would travel to shitholes like Oxford and Starkville as members of the SEC.

Tuscaloosa and College Station are nice towns. Lubbock is a shithole.
You are confused. Shithole doesnt equal small town. Most small college towns(which Lubbock isnt really*) are very nice and great places to see games. Oxford, Auburn, College Station, Tuscaloosa, Lawrence, Columbia...All great little college towns that I've seen games at.
I've seen games in Lubbock too. Its a shithole. Its the Fort Wayne of Texas.
*---Lubbock is bigger than Knoxville. Its a big city not some little town.

I feel the same way about Houston. I live in the Austin area and this place is almost as bad as Houston. Can't wait to retire out in west Texas.

Good luck to Memphis. I bet Memphis enthusiasm for basketball is sky high right now with the Penny hire.

Per your link... TT revenue $88m. Expenses $86m. So subtract $30m from that revenue. Hiw much subsidy will they need to cover the difference?
You are asking a hypothetical question that will likely never happen. Forbes just ranked Tech as 1 of the 25 most valuable schools in the country. Only 2 other Texas schools made that list.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/chrissmith/...d562b36c64
Again...based on TV revenue generated by other schools. Do you think TT gets $30+m based on their value? No, try UT and OU. Or do you think Vandy brings $41m in TV value because thats how much they get?
That is certainly true of any Power conference. Ohio St, Michigan, Penn St, Florida St, Clemson, Alabama, Auburn, Florida and Georgia provide a ton of value but that doesn't mean Tech has $0 value. Tech is a large school with a large fan base and I'm sure UH would love to be in our place earning those $30 million checks.
IIRC, Tech's Tier 3 rights are more valuable than UH's Tier 1 rights but I might be mistaken.
Maybe not $0. Conference needs bodies for the champions to play.
And of course we'd love the money. Im sure TT would like to make a major bowl. Only time they did was when they were in a 5 way tie for 2nd and won the tie breaker of being the last to go since they had never been before. How sad. Really earning your way
