You tip your cap to the other team for making the play. At least you gave your best shot. If you are Tech playing safe for the field goal at the end you are hoping that 1) your kicker even makes that kick which is no guarantee and 2) that South Carolina with 50 seconds left wont make a couple of plays of their own that would put them in field goal range to win it.

I have never been a fan of playing not to lose. Sometimes that will work but it seems to me more often than not teams that play not to lose, end up losing. It sucks when you lose a game like that when you know you should have won.

Yep - and that is why we lost today. We really outplayed them the whole game 03-banghead

I don't know what he was trying to do there. There was a Tech receiver on the sideline about 5 yds behind the linebacker. I don't know if he was trying to somehow get the ball through the defender, or missed really badly on trying to throw the ball away. From where the QB was, I think he could have thrown the ball in the stands and not be penalized. Either way a really poor decision. Other that that 1 play, our QB played very, very well.

He stares at receivers. The DB baited him and he bit.

Not on that play but there were others that he did. There were three receivers on that side of the field, end zone.

Very disappointed in the playcalling also. It never works out, if you reel it in just to lose at the end

It wasn't the O play calling in the end. Allowing them 80 yds for a field goal with 50 seconds was much bigger.

lol, Did you see it? That was a miracle pray that was answered. or more like the destiny of the Tech curse continues

There is usually quite a bit of luck in converting a Hail Mary, which that certainly was. Nevertheless, I would have liked to see (or hear as by that time I was just listening to Dave and Teddy - who are the best BTW) us rushing the QB with at least 4 on the losing drive.

Well you got to figure that was the right thing to do. Your QB did give away the winning points trying to score on third down.

that's where the game was lost....he choked in that and the subsequent series.....

tech easily outplayed them.....regardless, it's still sUc 1 cusa 0 at the end of the year tally...
Damn, I thought Tech had this one. I know South Caroline is an average SEC team, regardless we needed this one. Bitter pill to swallow for Bulldog fans.

Its a bummer man. Very few mistakes by Tech, but they were very costly. On a positive note, I think the team is improving each week.

Man, he didn't play "not to lose." That is too easy to claim. Tech made 2 mistakes which cost us the game. Even with that, completing a Hail Mary usually takes quite a bit of luck.

That is true, and it is a tough coaching job to change a QBs approach when he has been successful accomplishing things in a way that doesn't work as well at the D1 level. Rattay will get him there.

It is "too easy to claim" because it is absolutely true. Instead of creating our own "luck" by pressuring the QB on their final drive Tech played "not to lose" in prevent defense and it cost us another win.

I agree about the defense on the losing drive. In fact, in an earlier post I stated that we should have used our normal defense, rushing the QB with at least 4.

Or we could have just tried to score a TD or 2 more when we had the chance

We did try to score TDs

So sick of this SEC (P5 for that matter) officiating BS! The bias is obvious.

that's Skip Holtz for you. That said, ECU fans would take him back in a heartbeat.

La Tech had earned a win but one hail Mary pass to setup that field goal did them in. La Tech's defense was great the whole game. Damn shame.

Hindsight is always 20/20... if he had played normal defense and gotten beat deep we would have been whining about that. True, however, about SEC refs...they will make calls during your game that will get you beat. The same will happen to us when we play Tennessee in Knoxville later on this year...Happened to us late in the game this year against Kentucky.

After the way Tennessee struggle to beat UMASS yesterday 17-13, my money is going on USM to beat the Vols.
