Just do a little research on Albert Means. Even Feinstein said Alabama should have been given the death penalty. The most obvious case of NCAA doing all it could to avoid penalties against a high resource program. The facts of the payment for that player was proven in court by the IRS. The NCAA rushed their investigation so it concluded before the federal government court case. So after the IRS proves in court payments were made the NCAA says "We have already ruled on this case and can't go back and investigate again".
The booster who provided the $45,000 was found dead in his home during all of this. That investigation said there was a head wound and blood all over the guys house. The sheriff concluded he had fallen down the stairs of his home and wandered around leaving a blood trail until he died.
One of the penalties handed down by the NCAA was no bowl for one year. So Alabama petitions the NCAA for a thirteenth game and played that next year in Hawaii.
