OU President David Boren to retire tomorrow?
Brandon Drumm @BrandonTFB
BREAKING: Sources confirm that OU president David Boren is set to retire tomorrow. Presser in afternoon. @TFB_Sooners

Landthieves is running with it too.

It'll be interesting to see how the next President views realignment and the landscape of college football.

If true, best of wishes to Mr Boren in retirement and I hope he stays in good health.

Boren's secretary has said that the report is inaccurate. I'm guessing she is just stalling until Boren can make his announcement himself. But, we'll see.

Conflicting reports JR. Here's a summary for those interested.

I always thought the OU fans' perspective was Boren would retire after he became the longest tenured President. We'll see if his health played a role if this retirement is true.

Yep, I don't see any impact on realignment here other than Boren leaned Big 10. His replacement? We'll see.

FYI, OU’s search for a new president will have significant ramifications for future of Big 12 and OU’s future conference affiliation.

OU is sure to consider external candidates. But 2 in-house names to watch: biz school dean Daniel Pullin and law school dean Joe Harroz

Best we could hope for is a pro SEC guy that doesn't require OSU to tag along.

That would be ideal for us, but I don't know if the OK politicians might get involved and force OU's hand.

If OSU is not included they might still head to the Big 10. If OSU is included they pretty much have to come here. I suppose they could Texa-homa it to the PAC but I don't think they make much by doing that.

RE: OU President David Boren to retire tomorrow?
Of the two guys Jake Trotter mentioned...

Daniel Pullin - 2 degrees from OU and 1 from Harvard

Joe Harroz - 1 degree from OU and 1 from Georgetown

Also of interest on Harroz...

Faculty raise concerns about cronyism at OU

Quote:Apart from the curriculum changes, several professors said they believed that Boren, who left the Senate in 1994 to become president of the university, has already handpicked those he wants to lead the university after he leaves. Among them are Kyle Harper, an associate professor in the department of classics and letters who in December was promoted to senior vice provost, and Joseph Harroz Jr., dean of the College of Law. Harroz is rumored to be Boren’s candidate for president.

Harper graduated from Oklahoma in 2001 and returned in 2007 after receiving his Ph.D. from Harvard University. He was named the director of the Institute for the American Constitutional Heritage when it was established in 2009. Harroz served as Boren’s legislative director and legal counsel in the Senate.

They are much younger and would likely not buck State political influence. That could bode well for us.
