That's nice of him to say, but Louisville isn't currently scheduled to play at any G5 stadium at all.

I'll grant you that UofL probably would, but right now there is nothing on the schedule to back that up. It would be nice if UC and UofL would set up a home and home. I think it's likely UofL would do that.

In Charlie Coles last season at Miami, he said the following during a post-game press conference after we played at Division II Saginaw Valley State. I think it fits a lot of what you're saying, Coles once coached high school in Saginaw and later was head coach at Central Michigan:

Quote:But I think Saginaw Valley was spirited. And I was glad that we gave them this opportunity to play a Division I school. Very seldom does a team that's supposed to be higher than you comes to your court. And I don't like that about college basketball, that a Michigan won't go to Western Michigan. They'll sign a 5-year deal and say "we'll never come." I never did get that...Gene Keady and Bobby Knight used to come to Miami, but they don't make 'em like that no more.

The big boys want more than an advantage. They're like deer hunters. I have nothing against deer hunters, but you know when you hunt deer, there's not even a remote chance that the deer is going to get you. I want to see a guy go against lions and elephants and bears.

For what it's worth, Miami was a much better basketball program in the 80s and 90s than it is today.

7 Tourney appearances (and 3 wins) in the 15 years from 1984-1999, and won 64% of their games. Since Wally Z graduated it's sort of fallen off the map (have only won 47% of their games since 2000 and only 1 tourney appearance).

That's true, but even then you're still not seeing the likes of IU and Kentucky and UNC, all teams that have played at Miami, travel to mid majors like Dayton (to my knowledge at least). And in basketball you have over a dozen games to do that instead of three or four.

Just out of curiosity, when was the last time a high major basketball program traveled to Millett Hall to play? I know schools may have done so in the past, but I think in this "Power Conference Era" it is much more difficult to get programs to travel to a Group of 5 program for hoops. Even Cincinnati has a hard time getting these schools to come here.

Something like Purdue and Notre Dame around a decade ago. Was before my time, I've known nothing but basketball misery as a Miami fan plus football except for the end of last season.
