For whatever it's worth, pretty sure she's a recruited walk on. No scholarship money.

Don't know anything about her. How good is she supposed to be?

She had a some serious interest in her during her sophomore year, a number of Patriot League teams were talking to her. Other teams were watching her waiting to see how she developed her junior year. Then early in her junior year she blew out her ACL and missed the rest of the season. Her stock dropped and so did the scholarship interest. A lot of teams were interested in her as a walk-on, but apparently felt it was too risky to make an offer. She has decent size and may pay dividends for JMU and herself if she continues to improve.

As I'm sure some others on the board will attest, I have a ton of respect for Spotswood HS Girls HC, Chris Dodson. The E-Rock/Elkton AAU program grooms them at a young age. SHS and now ERHS both are extremely competitive (and well coached) at the state level year in and year out. I am confident she will enter JMU strong in fundamentals and adept at responding to coaching/development.

They do so at VA Tech too, I guess, as Kenny's second daughter Chloe is slated to enroll there in the fall (or, more likely, is already there for the summer session, as that's the way it's done at many P5s). Am I correct in understanding that she's thought to be better than her sister Kendyl, who's making a pretty decent name for herself down there at Blacksburg?

She is a point-guard, plays tough hard-nosed basketball, has poise and on-court leadership skills and is more versatile and has a bigger upside IMO. She was hurt and missed most of her senior year but did get to play at the end of the season. Kendyl is more one dimensional. (I hope Kenny is not reading this!)

Not sure if this was mentioned earlier but Casey Irvine is a preferred walk on- not a scholarship player from the start.

She also had a preferred walk on offer from some dude named Kenny Brooks at Va. Tech. She chose the JMU route. There was an article in the DNR just this past week.

No, I don't have the link but I imagine someone may be willing to look it up if asked nicely.

I am 100% confident that the new arena will sway recruits. It's absolutely a factor.

Darn right it will.

It may prove to be even a bigger factor for BB than BFS has been in recruiting FB players.

To me, the additional pieces of the overall UB&TC are what brings JMU up to par with our competitors and peers. Note, I didn't necessarily say put us ahead. I stress just bring us up to par, which is a statement of just how far behind we are and have been. Kudos to the administration, donors, etc., for making this happen.

When I say "additional pieces" I am talking about the practice courts and players lounge areas. We fans see the arena and certainly that is a huge piece of the pie I'm not denying that. But, the student-athletes we are recruiting will spend 100x more time in the practice, strength & conditioning, and lounge areas than the 15-18 times they'll play in the big venue.

It absolutely will help us from where we've been. It is a testament IMO to the strong recruiting job Lou Rowe has done in his short time considering he has not had these shiny new toys to sell in the present tense - same for Kenny Brooks and Coach O.

The Arena already is a huge lever for both O’Regan and Rowe. They both have said it has been a recruiting advantage for the players they signed last year which will get their senior year in the Union Bank & Trust center.

If we can’t get the best recruits with COA and a new arena, then something is terribly wrong.

I have no doubt the new arena will prove attractive to many recruits. The fact remains, however, that JMU, much as we love it, is not currently a P5 school. Not even close. And not likely to be any time soon. Take off the rose-colored glasses, folks. There's nothing wrong with being the class of the mid-majors either.

No one is pretending JMU is P5. The point is JMU can successfully recruit top 100 WBB players.

This I agree with, maybe not top 10 or even top 25, but I have no doubt we continue to put a good program together and strong OOC competition we can get some very good players to want JMU.

That's what they kept saying at Tennessee. Finally they got sane and hired a couple of good coaches in a row.

I saw on Twitter last night that Syracuse freshman guard Nikki Oppenheimer is transferring to JMU! She was a member of the Puerto Rico U18 team, I believe, although she is from Philly. Why do I think Ashley Perez might have had just a little bit to do with that? Anyway, she'll have 3 years left to play after she sits out a year. We'll be guard heavy for sure!

O to P

My wife saw that yesterday also. I was also wondering if Ashley was involved in getting her to come to JMU!!!

Her dad is an NBA coach also. Not bad roots to have.

We do have some kids with some good roots. Tori Harris is the baby of a basketball family too. Older brother Tobias, who played at Tennessee, was with the Detroit Pistons for some years and now plays for the LA Clippers. Some other basketball roots in that family too, although I am too lazy to look them up now. And of course Kamiah Smalls is from that basketball factory in Philly, Neumann-Goretti; good school academically and great girls' basketball program.
