RE: Women's basketball 2017-18
What h Buffalo coach said about Reid.s injury:
She hurt her ankle, I think, but she was walking in the locker room, so she's going to be fine. And it's going to take a divine intervention to stop this kid from playing in the next game. She's a tough kid, so we're hoping that Mr. Brian continue to create the miracles he been doing all season and get her healed and ready for our next game.

It’s good to hear it confirmed as only a sprain. She might not be 100% for NCAA but at least she is not facing surgery and a long rehab. She also went out at the end of the 3rd quarter and returned with a brace on her left wrist/thumb. I guess it was a rough day at the office.

Buffalo women received an at-large bid. They will play South Florida. A 6 vs. 11 match up.

RE: Women's basketball 2017-18
Ball State, Miami and Toledo all made the WNIT.
Biggest news Monday was that Jordan Korinek became the third KSU player in history to make the first-team academic all-American team. Others are Lindsay Shearer (2006) and Kate Miller (2002).
The MAC had three of the five first-team members. Others are Toledo's Jay-Ann Bravo-Harriott and Ball State's Carmen Grande.
Details and a listing of 14 statistical categories in which Korinek is in Kent State's top 10 are on the blog at http://wbbflashes.com.
So are details about the MAC's games in the NCAA and WNIT.

RE: Women's basketball 2017-18
On the blog at http://wbbflashes.com, we start to recap the Flashes' 19-13 season.
Why did they go from 19-13 to 13-19?
The four returning starters played as well or better than they did in the MAC East title season last year.
They needed a breakout season from someone to start to replace Larissa Lurken's 23 points a game. They didn't get it.

I thought CMU’s got screwed on seeding. They were clearly the better team today.

Buffalo is leading South Florida 98-71 with 3 minutes to go. I think the MAC was pretty good this year on the women’s side.

102-79. Could we say that this is the best day in MAC women’s basketball history?

Certainly at least a tie. I think both Kent and Toledo won first round games in 1996 but certainly Kent State’s was a close game. Also women’s basketball wasn’t even close to being as deep as it is 22 years later.

RE: Women's basketball 2017-18
I just looked it up. KSU and Toledo both indeed did win in 1996. Scores:
KSU 72, Texas A&M 68
Toledo 65, Mississippi 53
Both were 10 seeds.
Bowling Green is the only MAC team to win a second-round game. In 2007, they were a 7 seed and beat No. 10 seed Oklahoma State 70-66 and No. 2 seed Vanderbilt 59-56. Lost in Sweet 16 to Arizona, 67-49.
Overall MAC record in tournament before today was 8-43, best I can tell.
I've posted more on the tournament and the MAC history on the blog at http://wbbflashes.com.
Ball State beat Tennessee as a 12 seed in 2009. Otherwise, today's two 11 seed wins were the lowest seeded teams to win, along with Toledo in 1991.

Buffalo just won, I think by 23. Central Michigan is ahead by 17 in the last minute.
Incredible.

RE: Women's basketball 2017-18
If Saturday was the greatest day in MAC women’s basketball history., today is 10 tomes that.
Wins over No. 3 seeds by 16 and 21.
There's a quick post with some details (best I can tell, there have never been two mid-majors from the same conference in the Sweet 16 before) on the blog at http://wbbflashes.com.

Hopefully the men's basketball coaches in the league are taking note. I think this is all rooted in scheduling.

RE: Women's basketball 2017-18
Agreed. That’s the only way you get an at large bid from a conference like the MAC. Of course you have to win a few of those games also and both Buffalo and CMU (in their case for more than 4 years) have really recruited well. Both have excellent point guards in Presley Hudson and Stephanie Reid(from Australia) and have found other offensive threats to go along with them. Hudson is a big time scorer with range that goes 3 to 5 feet beyond the arc. When she gets hot she is almost unstoppable. Reid scores about 10 to 12 a game but is one of the best perimeter defenders I’ve seen in 30+ years of watching MAC women’s basketball. The two teams remind me when Kent, Toledo and BG use to battle it out. They are even better though as the quality of players and coaches in the women’s game have improved.

RE: Women's basketball 2017-18
KSU women's non-conference schedule was 150th of 349 teams. MAC medium was about 100.
KSU men's was 132. MAC men's median was about 150.
Buffalo women were 85. Central women were 67. That counts NCAA tournament games.
Buffalo men were seventh (!).
Starkey has said that he thinks league needs minimum standards for non-conference schedule as the Big Ten does. That would mean limited the number of games against non-division I teams (Eastern once scheduled three) and limiting the number of teams that had a low RPI in previous years.
Senderoff once said that he aims for a non-conference sked between 100 and 130 RPI. He said the MAC was so unlikely to get a second bid that scheduling tougher could hurt a team.

RE: Women's basketball 2017-18
A first look at the women's 2018-19 team:
Gone are three starters, including Jordan Korinek, who will be impossible to replace.
Coming is the best freshman class in school history, including a point guard who was player of the year in Massachusetts, and a guard-forward who was a four-time all-stater (first-team three times, second team as a freshman) in Virginia.
Returnees are three-year starter Alexa Golden, second-leading scorer Megan Carter and sophomore guard Ali Poole, perhaps the most improved player last season.
But the season will boil down to one thing: Can freshmen carry the team? Hasn't happened at Kent since Bob Lindsay's first recruiting class in about 1988.
Discussion starts on the blog at http://wbbflashes.com.
