RE: Merry Christmas Bearcats
The thing that impressed me was on the presser Luke admitted his 4 and 1 go for it on the 30 some yard line was ill advised.
You cannot improve until you admit your mistake. That former coach would never have manned up.
That same decision late in the 4th trailing we all would support. Right call wrong time.

RE: Merry Christmas Bearcats
Only three games in and we're already half way to our win total from last year. It may be that we win ugly this year or maybe we only end up with 5-6 wins, but purging the habits and attitudes from the previous regime is the bigger picture. Captain Rope only won 4 games his first season so Coach Fick should achieve that and more barring a complete collapse that I just don't foresee happening. These kids will play hard for this coach and that is a pleasure to behold. You could also make the argument that this team and Staff have not clicked on all cylinders yet. If the offense can improve and some of the sideline errors are minimized then the outlook is indeed good for the rest of the season. Bottom line, the ceiling is high for our program once again.
Oh, Merry Christmas RedHawks.

Do they realize what they've done, or is this just a typo as a result of heavily-lotioned fingertip?

Based on the tone of the thread, it was definitely intentional. I recommend making a visit if you want a few laughs.

Fickell said the play was to not snap the ball, but to attempt to draw them off sides. Signals got crossed, and they ran the play to his surprise. He didn't intend to go for it.

I'd rather them go for it there than try to draw them offsides. Don't like a sneak when you pack them that tightly though

Agree with the decision to go for it too. If you can't gain the first down on 4th and inches, shame on you. Given with the issues with the line and Moore's lack of mobility, I would have liked my chances better by simply handing it off to Doaks to plow forward for a yard there.

yeah...but not in that particular situation, on your own 30 at that point in the game. I was happy to find out it was a miscommunication rather than a judgment call to go for it.

RE: Merry Christmas Bearcats
I agree that I was relieved he didn't want to go for it but trying to draw them offsides in that case isn't smart either. If you don't get them to jump and have to burn a timeout you've just given away what could be a critical time out in a close game.
Going for it is craziness as well. If you get it you're still 65 yards away in a defensive battle where we've given no indication at that time that we can consistently drive the ball. The opportunity to hand them the ball in scoring range in that type of game means you have a lot more to lose than you do to gain. Those 7 points damn near cost us the game.

Personally, I think that's the perfect situation to do it. Defense feels like they had a stop, so they may be disappointed to stick it out there, our own defense had been owning them after their 1st drive, there was enough time to get those points back if they did score (it was 11:00 minutes or so in the 3rd when they got into the endzone), and we needed a spark to try to jumpstart the offense. If we punt there, we get into another field position battle, which is something we proved we couldn't exactly battle out of in the first half.
