Say it louder for the people in the back.

A lot of folks here need to look at the entirety of the CAA (and FCS as a whole) and tell us with a straight face that's a group of our peers.

CUSA is actually a pretty darn good football conference. Marshall, North Texas, Middle, Tech, and FAU (recently) are good football programs. WKU had some good years recently. The conference talent is not the problem.

The bottom drags down the top and C-USA doesn't do well out of conference especially this year. And we never have a realistic chance for a team to make it to the NY6 bowls. All those things hurt C-USA.

Truth... what a nightmare the current CAA would be in all sports.

And how much do you know about the athletics of Elon?

How much does anyone know about the athletics of Texas San Antonio?

I know and care more about WM, JMU, Towson, Delaware, Richmond & Villanova than WKU, MTSU, FAU, FIU. No disrespect intended, but I honestly had no idea any of those teams sponsored football before CUSA. Im sure their fans feel the same way about us.

True story: At the tailgate last Saturday, a guy I was with had his son with him. He's probably 11 or 12. He asks who we are playing and we told him FIU. He asks, "oh, are they a big team like JMU or UNC?".

03-lmfao Clearly the kid doesnt understand the college sports landscape yet.

Also buddy no one wants to go back to the CAA, I dont care what teams you have crushes on. When VCU left us we had to leave, there was no reason to stay.

One would assume that an ODU fan would know more about them than they know about Stony Brook.

The CAA is two schools we'd like to play in W&M and JMU, a few schools we'd be okay with scheduling and a bunch of other schools we would complain about.

I'll take Marshall, WKU, MT, UAB, USM, Charlotte, LT, UTEP and the rest of CUSA over that league all day.

I will. We all pay good money for this product and while the results suck currently, we at least get to watch better talent. There's a lot of future NFL players coming to our little stadium this year. Now, we just need to get the right people in place to get that talent to play for us.

RE: Game Atmosphere
Would I rather watch our team with NFL talent (we finally have a couple FCS recruits make it, but will likely have our first draft pick this year) compete with other teams that have NFL talent ......or watch them compete with JMU, W&M, Elon, Stony Brook, etc?

Im not mad that anyone would rather watch FCS football. I would rather watch higher quality football (even if we lose, the product is better). And if we somehow went P5, I'd enjoy that product more as well. I knew hardly anything about Delaware, JMU, Towson, etc. back then, I can't name one player from any of those teams right now even though I watched NC State/JMU.

High School>FCS>G5>P5>NFL. The further you get to the right, the higher quality product. And if ODU were to keep moving to the right, I would like that progression even more and care even less about the product to the left.

FWIW, we have 4 guys in the NFL right now after 10 years of existence. Right now, on our team, we have several guys that will have a shot in the NFL:

Tony Barnett
Nick Clarke
Duhart (?)
Fox
Ximines (likely first draft pick)

That doesn't include the younger guys. I prefer this over future accountants (no offense to those nerds).

Here's what I know... not too long after we first joined CUSA, I turned on ESPN and saw not only two FBS teams playing, but UTSA beating Arizona State at a pretty full looking Alamodome (you would never see a CAA school hosting a P5 team on ESPN). That's all I needed to see to know that I would rather be in their conference than with Stony Brook. I have since learned to appreciate UTSA. Being a fan of college sports, I was already more than familiar with all other schools and programs.

More now that I did before we joined CUSA. The same could be said for the teams that joined the CAA when we were there. An engaged fan will learn about their conference mates. It doesn't have to happen overnight.

All I know is, while we are currently down in football right now, if we stayed in the CAA and missed the chance to jump up, there would be a lot of unhappy and "what if" posts going down on these boards (probably from some of the same posters who say they wish we had never moved). I get it, football hasn't exactly worked out since we moved up, but trying to rush back to the glory days just isn't it. The grass isn't always greener on the other side. I think we have all pretty much accepted now that ODU will never touch P5 glory in football, but moving down won't fix anything. I'm frustrated too and think a lot of work needs to be done from the ground up to right the ship, but I do not want to go join the current state of the CAA. We need to win a CUSA title before complaining about anything, but we haven't gotten close in football yet.

05-bump

While at the game on Saturday, I noticed that the PA music and the band are not in sync when it comes to music between plays. This may be nitpicky but I feel like back in the day they were more coordinated? Now it seems like there is music played between every play no matter the result. It really sounds unprofessional when the band tries to play a song while a song is blaring over the loudspeakers.

Also, I think I've mentioned it but does anyone who was/is currently in the band know why we play our fight song on every first down? We used to have a short music lick that coincided with the announcement (And that's another Monarch First down! *music/roar*). It just seems like a jumbled mess between every play.

Maybe I've run out of things to complain about this season lol. But it something that's bothered me during our home games

I am in 100% agreement about everything you said. We even played music over the band as they made their rounds around the stadium. I jokingly mentioned to my neighbor that we'd be broke if we pay music royalties on every song we play. Holy smokes. Dial it back a bit and play music that makes sense depending upon the situation and timing.

Also, it is just me or has Jack had an increase in his hot mic slip ups in the last few games? I think this week's was "gee whiz" after we got smashed by a pretty big play.

I watch these games on TV and their bands get a lot more time than ours, and I think our band is pretty damn good. Let our kids play and turn off all of that stupid canned crap.,

That was a highlight of the game. I laughed out loud on that one.
