I think that's probably true. If we're losing bad or winning big, sun in your face can be a deciding factor on stay or go.

Good point. That sun can be brutal. I had seats there a few years ago and couldn't wait to get on the west side. Another question somewhat related to game day... and Im actually serious about this...

Is there a reason the planes always seem to miss the stadium when there is a flyover? I LOVE the flyovers, and wish they were every game, but the planes always seem to go over the west side stands instead of the field. Sometimes missing the stadium altogether. Are they afraid of hitting BAL or something? I'll give them credit for actually synching the music with the almost flyover this time though. Thats definitely an improvement.

Might simply be restrictions.
When the Navy guys used to do fly overs my ship they got CLOSE!

A few years back we did a joint training thing with the AF off the coast of Guam. After it was all done the AF guys wanted to do a fly over.. it was granted. All the ships got in line and then the AF guys got MAYBE 2000 yards from the ship.

Lots of jokes were being made over the battle group net. Navy pilots were talking smack and said they could do better. BOY did they, 3 went over head above 50 ft away from the top of our main mast. 1 fly boy went low and close along the STBD side. We could have thrown water balloons at him.

The height is fine, though lower would be cool. I just don't understand why the planes can't seem to actually fly over the field. The helicopters did it a few years ago. I'm no pilot, but would think if they can land on a ship, they can fly directly over a field. There must be a reason other than they just miss. I keep thinking BAL must be in the way, but thats just an uninformed guess.

RE: Game Atmosphere
I thought there were restrictions in place after 9/11 but I am obviously wrong. Guess we don't matter since our capacity is below 30,000 people.

FDC 9/5151, issued under 14 CFR 99.7 on "Special Security Instructions," restricts flight over stadiums during major league baseball, National Football League, NCAA, and motor speedway events. The so-called “stadium TFR” prohibits stadium aircraft and parachute operations at or below 3,000 AGL within a 3 nm radius of any stadium with a seating capacity of 30,000 or more people when there is a major league baseball game, NFL game, NCAA division one football game, or major motor speedway event occurring. This TFR applies to the entire US domestic national airspace system, and takes effect from one hour before the scheduled event time until one hour after the event concludes.

RE: Game Atmosphere
Speaking of strolling through the tailgate... what do you guys think of the Monarch March? It seems to be losing some sizzle on our end. We make a point to cheer the guys on as they walk by, but it seems it could be more. Its a good idea and Id hate to see it lose momentum. Maybe the cheerleaders and band could march with them? If the band is practicing on the field during the march, maybe the hoops pep band could go with them.

That's a joke. Crowds energize teams before the game starts (see VT). Crowds should be engaged and cheering on their team. To think anything else is insane.
It's hard to be energized when your getting your ass kicked by 30 points in the first half!

I would argue that the crowd was sitting on their rumps on the first defensive possession. At which point we were not getting our asses kicked.

The first possession!!! Are you kidding me. The team needs the crowd to get them energized against UNC. Wow that says a lot about the team makeup.

I did not say the team needs the crowd to get them energized, you jumped to that conclusion. I believe that it's part of the experience and involvement of the fans to show our appreciation and build on the energy that exists. You are defending the fans lethargic mannor, self-indulgently, because we were getting our asses kicked. I mearly argued that they were lethargic, the fans and not the team, before we were getting beat.

RE: Game Atmosphere
I'm sure it depends on what side of the stadium you're on. I was in section 107 and the crowd was very into it. We became even more raucous when UNC was backed up on their first possession. Then the defense hands them a huge run and all of the momentum. From there the writing was on the wall. It's hard to get hyped when you struggle against Albany. It's even more hard to be hyped when you realize it's not your day against an ACC school.
I'm not saying that we don't have a lazy crowd issue. There have been times in other games where we should be loud and most people are sitting quietly. At least clap for the love of god. However, it strongly depends on the situation. We were rocking early against UNC. But like I said, when you could feel and see the momentum leave the building, it's hard to stay into it. I think we will be stronger as the years go on and lethargy will be a thing of the past.

Not in my section, everyone was on their feet, especially on 3rd down.

I will say though, we haven't had a close home game in 2 years.

Yeah, I wonder if people don't do it when the plays on the other end. What you're describing was happening on the other end of the field. I bet the habit is that the majority only get up and get loud when the plays are happening right in front of them.

Big part of the problem IMO. The home games are rarely nail biters...I can't remember one in the recent past where I was really on the edge of my seat into the 4th Q.

Last one I can remember was the OT game vs La Tech 3 years ago. That one was awesome!

FAU nailbiter where we lost chance at a bowl game.....the only game I can remember since the New Hampshire game where we were favored and lost.

The Charlotte come back when Washington was put in at QB.
The FIU game at home where Misher had the INT and we kicked game winning FG

RE: Game Atmosphere
What worries me is that the crowd seems to be regressing. In the CAA days there were some very LOUD crowds. The 12th Monarchs took pride in making it so the opposing offense couldn't hear on third down. The wave was happening "albeit on offense", people were really into it. We had crowds that were better than a lot of FBS teams at the time in terms of energy, enthusiasm and noise.
