RE: Game Atmosphere
I sit on the west side, so this is hearsay, but Im told the west side is louder and stays longer than the east. That makes sense since thats the specialty seating side for donors. I hope its true, because the east side was WEAK after half time.

I think that's probably true. If we're losing bad or winning big, sun in your face can be a deciding factor on stay or go.

Good point. That sun can be brutal. I had seats there a few years ago and couldn't wait to get on the west side. Another question somewhat related to game day... and Im actually serious about this...

Is there a reason the planes always seem to miss the stadium when there is a flyover? I LOVE the flyovers, and wish they were every game, but the planes always seem to go over the west side stands instead of the field. Sometimes missing the stadium altogether. Are they afraid of hitting BAL or something? I'll give them credit for actually synching the music with the almost flyover this time though. Thats definitely an improvement.

Yeah, I switched to West side this year. At some point, I looked over at the poor souls on the east side sitting in the sun and felt bad. It was perfect after half on the west side.

I am one of those unlucky ones that switched to east side only to find West is far better and louder.

RE: Game Atmosphere
I had four years on the east and now am into my fifth (so to speak) on the west. Frankly, the crowd I was with on the east was much more raucus than the ones I have been with the last several years. On the east, we could start a "dee-fence" chant and get in going by pretty much everybody. I have not heard that at all lately. I do enjoy that shade in September and early October though.

Yes, he does because the game atmosphere absolutely sucks at Foreman Field. When your defense is on the field and has your opponent pinned at 3rd long, fans should not be sitting quietly in their seats waiting to see what happens. They should be standing up making enough noise that it makes communication difficult for the opponent. My only hope at this point is that next week when ODU travels to Blacksburg, ODU admin and fans finally experience a game atmosphere that is crazy enough to disrupt the visiting team. If at any point in a game at VT, the PA starts the intro to Enter Sandman, the whole stadium explodes with emotion. It's a rallying point that the team feeds off of. If Wilder and company were smart, they'd make the team practice under such conditions this week.

I sat in section 102 yesterday. It was so disappointing to see the fans so unresponsive, even when the football team itself was signaling from the sideline to get loud by moving their arms up and down and waving their towels. (In case y'all didn't know that's what they meant.) I can't imagine any decent recruit would sign on for that lack of support.

Isn't there someone on this board who works for the athletic department?

You are absolutely right. Our crowd seemed like a wine and cheese one to a friend of mine who i tagged along for the trip. He said UNC band and fans made more noise than us. The home side and student section were atleast making some noise but the east side was terribly silent and felt like they were watching a game of curling. Gotta do better than that.

My point exactly....There was no All aboard Ha .... that was loud clear and separate. There needs to be a pause (3- 5 sec) between the video and the music / narrative in the video to the All Aboard - Crazy Train music part. Maybe I didn't hear it because the audio is so piss poor in section 105. There were several donors around me that were very pissed about the poor audio quality. We cant even hear about who sponsors are or who / what is being recognized on the field. Make for a horrible game atmosphere for some high paying fans / supporters.
I think there may have actually been a built in pause like you suggested, but the team jumped the gun. Crazy train started a few seconds after they ran on the field. Something definitely got screwed up with the timing.

That's a joke. Crowds energize teams before the game starts (see VT). Crowds should be engaged and cheering on their team. To think anything else is insane.

You both correct. Its actually a sequence of energy/momentum exchanges that should keep the stadium rocking through out the game.

RE: Game Atmosphere
The stadium was plenty energized in the first quarter. Very loud where I was in the first two series on defense. All the air was let out when they were scoring at will and we couldn't complete a single pass. I don't think we even had a first down in Q1...Not easy to stay amped up when the team is giving you nothing.

RE: Game Atmosphere
Shrug. It seemed like I was the first and only person to stand up in a 20-30 person radius when our D took the field for the first time to make noise, so the game wasn't out of hand by any means. I did a quick scan around me and people were into the game but sat there content. It probably seems like less than actually are because of the volume of people.

I don't get bent out of shape over it. I'll keep doing my thing. At least nobody has told me to stop being so loud. =]
