Too many damn Steves anyway

I think we should still use Hoy in some designed run/option type plays. Or move him to WR, he is fast and I think he could be a weapon for us. Most athletic players need to be on the field.

What did you see over the first 2+ games that showed read/options with Hoy should continue?

I think he can run in certain formations and play calls. Lets be fair, he struggled throwing the ball but also scored on a nice run to seal the UMass game for us and I can think of a couple other nice runs he has had. He also came in a had to learn the system pretty quickly although the same as Steven Williams. My point is that with so many injuries on the offensive side of the ball, I think he is athletic enough to be on the field and help us.

Williams appears to be able to run just as well as Hoy but also provide a passing threat.

There is no way this staff purposefully calls for a QB run play. They would never put him in that type of risk.

Technically they do. We have always run read option in which the QB is instructed to hold on to the ball if the DE crashes (and no LB replacing him).

The problem with putting Hoy in for a few designed running play is that everybody immediately know why he is in the game. Any advantage gained by his skills (if there is any) would immediately be negated by the fact that the opponent knows you aren't going to throw the ball.

But, now that they know he isn't going to throw. He will. Double reverse psychology.

Here is some more really bad news. I learned from what appears to be a reliable source that Lawry is planning to graduate this year and transfer to West Virginia for his last season.

Fyi, Ray Lawry isn't that good. P5 schools need bench warmers, so he'll be a good one there.

This will be interesting. Wilder says Ray may come back soon. The guy I spoke to said he would be able to play this year but his "advisors" are telling him that red shirt and transfer is better for his NFL prospects. i hope Lawry stays and does the right thing.

I think the play here is that Wilder knows that Lawry would leave if they apply for a medical red shirt so the best thing to do is to say he is ready to come back now and if he does not then he can't get a medical red shirt. Shrewd

See my explanation above about what I think is going on. The move is to say Ray, you have two choices. Play the rest of the year for ODU or nothing.

When I heard BW say that I thought that was just to get the media attention off of his embarrassing performance

This is actually comical. To go from "out for the year" to ready to play in three weeks is a bad look.
