"...Now we wonder if it can even be ameliorated. Anyone whose labors take him among America’s distinguished elder statesmen, especially those in the Boston-New York-Washington corridor, discovers that our most influential citizens all have one thing in common: a house in Florida. An unfortunate truth is that the value of their Florida coastal property would plummet if they were made to bear the cost of their life-style choices. A lot of ritzy communities would shrink drastically."

This is the one thing that makes it impossible to take climate change cultists in political positions seriously. Regardless of whether you believe man is causing climate change or if you even believe the climate is warming, we should be properly pricing and not encouraging further coastal development. As the article mentions, coastal development used to be fairly cheap so it could be rebuilt. I remember those concrete block huts on South Padre Island. That's not what you have anymore, although Texas still has a lot less coastal development than you see in many other states, perhaps because there are no private beaches. The beaches are all public property.

Disasters are getting more and more expensive and more and more people are at risk.
