Dang both of those are so far! I was thinking maybe more regional? Can you transfer within the Big 12 without penalty? If so maybe Oklahoma or TCU? RICE? No idea

Tayler Bennett is leaving Rice as a graduate transfer. That's not surprising to me - she ended up missing the last half of the season with an undisclosed injury and she wouldn't have received any playing time next year. Congrats to her on graduating in three years, and good luck to her wherever she ends up next year.
My speculation at this point is we use the extra scholarship with a regular transfer who sits out next season. I don't know that for sure but it seems like it would be a good time to have someone sitting out a season who can play in 2020-21.
FYI, Tayler will complete her final two seasons of eligibility at Academy Of Art University.

That said-it is actually NCAA DII.. I assumed it was NAIA.
If she wants to do design, it's probably a decent fit, but a lot of students who want to do "design" don't really know exactly what is involved.

RE: Women's Basketball Recruiting Thread
First recruit of 2020 is Maya Bokunewicz, a 6-0 PG from Pennsylvania who seems like a relative unknown. By my estimation, and disregarding any potential departures next year, we should have one more spot open. It looks like we're still in the running for Fatou Samb, a big who's ranked #68 in ESPN's top 100, and Zayla Timmer, a G/W who's a 3*. Unrelated to Bokunewicz in any way, but I have been wondering whether our last two seasons would be enough to vault us into serious consideration for some of these top 100, top 50 recruits. Might need to have another year like last to really get the national attention.

Had offers from DePaul, William & Mary, Northeastern, St Francis Brooklyn, Duquesne, Saint Francis, Akron, and Bucknell. DePaul was a top 25 team last year, so good to beat them out.

Her picture makes her look taller than 6-0. Speaking of which, the picture of the 5 incoming freshman posted on twitter makes it look like one of the 6-2 girls is taller than listed. But I don't know which one is which.

Rice makes Fatou Samb's top 5 along with Wake Forest, Michigan, Harvard, and Cal.

She's the 68th ranked recruit in the country in ESPN's rankings. I tend to take more stock in women's rankings just because it seems it's easier to identify a dominant player in HS. 6-3 post from Houston who's obviously very smart. This is the kind of recruit that people on this board have been dreaming of (on the men's side especially).

2022 G Carleigh Wenzel was in for an unofficial visit a couple days ago. She's a 4* recruit and will probably be top 100. She's been mentioned a few times in this thread because we recruited her brother. Committed to Texas Tech like 2 or 3 years ago (absolutely crazy) but decommitted a year or so back. Her dad seems to be a big fan of Langley and she seems to be a really hard worker. Visited Texas a few weeks back and played in a Team USA camp as well. This would be an important get.

From a UT board after her last visit:
Quote:Guard Carleigh Wenzel (San Antonio) back on campus today for another unofficial. I’ve been told by ‘someone in the know’ that she’s a high priority target in the 2022 class.

Looks like Samb visited Cal over the weekend and met with Northwestern today.

RE: Women's Basketball Recruiting Thread
2021 PG Kyndall Hunter visited campus last week. She's the #34 player in 2021 and the #9 point guard. Plays at Cypress Creek so she's local. Never easy to guess the likelihood that we stay in the hunt for somebody who's ranked that high, but a really good season should help.
*Reading a very short interview with her, she did mention that Rice being ranked last year played a factor in her visit. Essentially that Langley could show where the team had been and where they are now. Another year in the polls would do *wonders* because the next two years are going to be make or break. You can't just replace players like Ogwumike and Mulkey with a snap of the fingers. The impact of landing a top recruit in WBB is much more magnified than in MBB.

Fatou Samb has moved up to #53 in ESPN's recruiting rankings. She recently had a visit from and visited Northwestern.

RE: Women's Basketball Recruiting Thread
Harmoni Turner, a 5* 2020 PG out of Mansfield, committed to Harvard. Only reason I'm noting it is because she was a target and Harvard is a decidedly average WBB program. They went 17-13 last year and 18-11 the year before.
If we're to build Rice WBB into what it can be, Turner is the type of recruit that we'll eventually need to start landing. A 5-star guard from Texas who puts a clear emphasis on education. We're not going to land all of them, but we need to start hitting on some (this isn't a criticism at all...this is obviously only the first offseason after breaking the NCAA/ranking ice). A very good year would do wonders because I'm not sure we've gotten to the point where we can sell Rice over a Harvard/Princeton/Northwestern/etc, even with them being inferior basketball programs.
I don't know how high a target Turner was, but missing out on her and Samb would be a rough start to a two year recruiting period which really has to be strong. You can't just replace Ogwumike and Mulkey with a few diamonds in the rough. Maintaining a consistently top-25, or thereabouts, program is probably going to require us to nab some top 100 recruits. High level recruiting is vastly more important in WBB than MBB which is why there's so little parity.

Let’s see after a year she like Nicole, Nancy, Erica, and Olivia may wind up transferring in.
