RE: Women's Basketball Recruiting Thread
It be a great accomplishment if we can get into the NIT tournament this year. WBB is allowed 15 scholarships, and we have 15 players who have legitimate arguments for playing time. If not, then great, but distributing 200 minutes amongst that roster is going to be challenging (which is a good problem to have, though).
I'm not so sure that happens. It's not like men's basketball where all players seem to have hopes of a pro career, even when that doesn't seem super realistic in a lot of cases. We also will have 5 seniors next year so that's a pretty healthy class to fill to begin with. And some of the girls returning next year are coming off injuries so it's tough to know for sure if they will be full strength next season.
The other point is if we don't make the NCAA's this season, I would think most of the team would have that singular goal of making it to the NCAA tournament (and winning some games in the postseason). We'll also have plenty of blowouts (something common in women's basketball) so the playing time will be there at times.

2020 6-0 Eylia Love was on an unofficial this past weekend. Doesn't have a ranking page or anything like that but appears to be garnering some Big 12 interest.

I believe that was Flower Mound Jr. Fwd Whitney Cox sitting in the Rice section for a couple of the C-USA Tourney games. Younger sister of B12 defensive POY Lauren Cox (Baylor).

Any news on WBB recruiting? The marketing dept needs to help out more in advertising WBB to the public.

Well if everyone returns and stays healthy, we have no more scholarships available to hand out this year. So no news is good news, most likely.
The class by class breakdown for now for 2018-19 is
Freshman - Smith, McCurry, Alao
Sophomore - Mulkey, Wiggins, Chrisman, Ellig
Junior - Bennett, Ozoude, E. Ogwumike
Senior - Iademarco, O. Ogwumike, Stanton, Rainey, Grigsby
Next year's recruiting class will be important with 5 open scholarships. I hope it's a good class of kids to go after.

I would imagine Olivia O. will get a medical redshirt for this season.

Doubtful. She already redshirted a year transferring in from Pepperdine, and with the concussion, she may not want to apply for a 6th year anyway. I'd say it's more likely she either stays a senior next year or retires from basketball altogether. Just my humble opinion - no inside information at all. Although I suppose it might be fun for her and Erica to end up in the same class together.

I was talking with Rick Mello before a game at Reckling a couple weekends back, and he seemed pretty confident that Olivia would be returning to action next year.

She would not need to redshirt in order to play next year.

Agreed, but the medical redshirt, assuming she applies, gives her another year of elibility, whether or not she chooses to take it.

RE: Women's Basketball Recruiting Thread
Maybe someone could start a new thread for 2019-2020 WBB recruiting who has an inside scoop of any signed players or have any interest?

Women's Basketball Recruiting Thread
Worth repeating in this thread:
(04-07-2018 08:28 PM)Fort Bend Owl Wrote: I saw a tweet from Haylee Swayze, a 5-10 guard out of Purcell, OK that she is signing a scholarship with the women's basketball team. She is a senior from a pretty tiny school so my guess is she is a sleeper recruit. We don't have any scholarships to offer unless someone currently on the team isn't returning but I don't know how a scholarship opened up (she could be walking onto the team but the tweet made it sound like she was offered a scholarship).

Here's the official announcement of her signing, listing her now as 5'11", quite tall for a women's point guard...

Is she considered a 3 or 4 star recruit? Who else gave her offers? (04-11-2018 12:17 PM)waltgreenberg Wrote: (04-08-2018 07:43 AM)owl at the moon Wrote: Worth repeating in this thread:

Well, didn't 5'9" guard Erica O. lead the team in rebounding this past year?

RE: Women's Basketball Recruiting Thread
So it's entirely possible that Nicole might not be back next year. According to an email listserv she's awaiting grad school application results. I don't know if that means anything definitively, but it sure sounds like she might be going to grad school somewhere else.
Although I'm also hearing that this might not be the case. So who knows.

Tasha Brown moving to an assistant position at UCLA. Wonder how that affects recruiting and potential roster turnover.
