Any thoughts on who the next coach could be? Have to assume there are a lot of interested candidates.

If there is a former or current assistant with no head coaching experience we can get for cheaper, that's my guess.

Folks on the Robocoach site seemed to think Longwood coach Riley could be a good candidate, though I hope we will attract a lot of other solid candidates also. Would think we are well positioned to draw coaching interest. MD proved you can succeed here at a high level.

Assistant coach Loren named "interim" head coach. Wonder if they will begin a coaching search now, or wait to see how this season plays out.

We hired from within for WBB, so if Coach Lo is a good candidate, I would not be surprised if we remove the interim tag and keep some semblance of continuity. It would make the transition easier for the women too, especially since fall practice can't be too far away (not sure exactly what the schedule is like).

This sounds like a good plan to me.

“Loren is the coach of the JMU Dukes right now and I have full faith in her that she’s going to do extremely well,” Bourne said. “We will at the end of the season, though, open this job — it’s a top-25 program — and we will look at all candidates who we think are dynamic and a good fit for JMU. Obviously, if Loren has a great year and does the things that she’s capable of and can do, she’s going to be a very strong candidate for that permanent position.”

I agree. It is the right approach....hopefully Loren crushes it this year and makes the search easy.

I'd think whoever it is we will still have the best coach in the CAA.

No way we continue to be 10-15 caliber. It was fun while it lasted...

I was under the impression this was similar to WBB in that Loren has the job unless something happens or she doesn't want it. I don't think they are doing a search for a new coach are they?

I would think keeping the interim tag on the coach is not going to bode well for recruiting. Recruits don't like uncertainty.

So we basically lost our stud softball coach because Auburn's assistant coach could not keep it in his pants.03-nutkick

Or they could do like they did with WBB and name her HC, which would be the smart thing to do, especially if she does a good job and the players are happy.

I'm really bummed by this because I've been trying to get a friend in CT with softball-playing daughters to send his girls to camp here. He has dreams of getting them into an SEC school, of course, but JMU is a little closer. Now this.

JMU is still JMU

you can have a great coach, but if you don't have the great school to go with it, the ceiling is low

you combine a great coach with what JMU has to offer, and you get a Top 10 program.

that holds true for just about any program at Madison.

Regarding the bold, they went through a complete interview process and brought in a number of candidates before hiring Sean.

Which makes one wonder how much of that was just for show. I've seen that before in my professional life.

Dean quoted in his intro presser at Auburn about being most impressed about the "family feeling" at Auburn. Good gawd. We know that's coaches speech. You left JMU for the big bucks and the SEC prestige. Sucks. Also reported Dean tried to take his top assistant, who remained to be our interim HC, but would not try and recruit Megan Good.

Megan is 7 hours away from graduating and is a great teammate.
