TV in general is going to be fascinating.

You can guarantee that it's not going away, any time in our lifetimes. And you can also guarantee that it isn't going to stay where it's at right now.

Also, Fox does stupid **** like what they're doing on Saturday.... No football on Big Fox. What are they airing? Baseball game 2 of ALCS at 4pm. Great... no issue with that at all... But also then a Nascar Truck Race and then at night Boxing. WTF? How can you get people used to watching you if the middle week of the college football season you have no football. Just a dumb as **** mistake. So how can casual fans find fox if they aren't showing football?

FOX is airing baseball, which has no clock, so why have another FOX Business.situation like the start of Michigan@Purdue?

Boxing is a great option for FOX on Saturday night as the Premier Boxing Champions series doesn't receive money from FOX. PBC actually buys the network airtime and sells their own advertising. The boxing card with those two bouts is perfect to air after baseball as they've paid for the two hours whenever the game ends.

sorry but for a network trying to establish themselves as being a place to watch college football, to have the middle Saturday of the season totally dark is inexcusable. bare minimum they should have had a game at noon.

wow sounds like Michigan/Indiana was the #1 game of the weekend on TV. Another week where ABC/ESPN beats the #1 choice from Fox. that's at least 2x that's happened.

nothing last week finished in the top 10.

This week should have 2 games. Michigan/Penn St and Notre Dame/USC.

RE: 2017 Top Rated College Football games
IF u check the TV ratings
for this season:

SEC/BIG
dominate the Top 10

Many times Pac 12/Big 12
might have one game make the Top 10
& so far neither conference has had
the top rated game for the week

IF an AAC school is not playing a P5
their TV rating #'s stink
Many times not even having a rating pt to show 4 it
If AAC wants 2 B considered a "P6"
they get almost ZERO TV ratings 2 show 4 it

RE: 2017 Top Rated College Football games
what kind of sticks out so far is last year there were 11 games overall that got over 8 million viewers. 6 of those games were by week 8.

Here we are this year- and we've had 2 games with over 8 million viewers.

I think it is probably a confluence of multiple factors: the inability to count streamers, the NFL anthem protest, the thuggery and rape at Baylor, the pedophilia of Penn State, the inability of the NCAA to punish systematic fraud and cheating at UNC, the payola at Ole Miss, the FBI investigations of hoops, and a season that started out looking like the usual suspects were going to make the CFP. and last but not least the over saturation of games now televised.

People love their country as a whole, despise violent crime, detest even more those who seem to get a pass for crimes committed, despise sleazy dealings (UNC), and want sport to be an escape from the world, not a platform for talking heads to further inflame or incite the political divide by dragging that crap into their escape.

If FOX wasn't incompetent they could exploit their advantage here because ESPN has gone over the top in dragging the worlds issues into our escapes. ESPN doesn't deserve an audience and I think Americans are telling them that.

So when you assume that most big name schools run sleazy programs because of the drumbeat of headlines indicating everything from pedophilia to rape, to scams, to pay for play, to fraudulent classes, and then watch the object of your sports escape disrespect the symbol of your freedom and nation at a time when domestic terrorism is front and center of the headlines then what the hell do you expect?

Toss in the rising cost of maintaining a system of overpaid, over-hyped and socially reprehensible jocks and coaches and mix that in with an economy where the average country loving decent human being is getting by with less and less and you have a classic recipe for our society to kick the whole damn business to the curb, and to rightfully do so.

It's time the conference commissioners got together and decided to put a fresh face on college sports and to consider not signing big money deals with any network that presents it as anything other than an American pass time and escape. If I can't watch a football game without the politics, sleaze, and possible assumption that so much gambling money is riding on the game that the final score is jobbed, then I'll go watch a good clean American Movie like the Godfather just to be reassured of less corrupt American values and ultimate justice! Sarcasm intended. My point being that our old version of corruption looks tame by comparison and not even Michael Corleone could have condoned the craptastic world of college sports today! College football talk and news has now become a subject that you have to keep away from the children. Think about that!

RE: 2017 Top Rated College Football games
I think it's more quite frankly that there's been for whatever reason fewer big games this year. I mean realistically what games that we've seen so far would we have expected big audiences for? The Michigan/Penn St game had the disadvantage of going up against the LCS game 7 with the Yankees.

I do think it's been a case of audience splintering. I mean we had 1 night with ND/Georgia, Ohio St/Oklahoma, Auburn/Clemson, and I think there was a Fox game as well at the same time. So a lot more splintering. Thru 8 weeks this year there's been 73 games with at least 2 million viewers. That compares to only 62 last year same time. Last 2 weeks- it is a 20-14 edge for this year

The main FOX channel has been pulled since the start of the season from AT&T Uverse. I don't know if they were pulled from Direct TV as well or not. But those are millions of viewers as well who can't watch. The channel went dark on opening weekend and here in the Southeast U-verse subscribers won't be able to watch Ohio State / Penn State this weekend. That has to have an impact on FOX's numbers. BTW the World Series is dark as well.

But don't underestimate the other factors I've noted. I know more than a few life long avid college football watchers that have turned it off this year and that's something in the Southeast. I'm not one of them yet but my disgust level with particularly the politicizing of the events has about pegged out. It is a cascade of public disgust on a wide array of issues that sapping the popularity.

But you did raise a great point. So far this year I can't watch but 1 quality game a week because all of the other quality games are on at exactly the same time. Late night games are excepted. But 2:30 PM games and 8:00 PM games are horribly overbooked as networks jockey for that number and none of them are getting it.

That would be only for those Fox stations that are network owned. Only 17 of them. Also, I have Direct TV and the Fox owned station is on there still in DC. So I think that's a small subset quite frankly that would be missing Fox.

But it's really not had a huge impact so far. Big Fox really hasn't had to this point any huge games. Yeah maybe USC/Texas- but that wasn't a really huge one- and was up against a good Clemson/Louisville game same time. Michigan St/Notre Dame probably their other top game so far(and it got beat by Michigan/Iowa). Big Fox's top games are yet to come- this week with Ohio St/Penn St(albeit at 330) and then Michigan/Ohio St.

Check out the games on at 2:30 PM CTZ this weekend and the competition is significant. Still there is a good portion of the Southeast that will be minus Penn State / Ohio State. I would probably have watched more of that than Georgia / Florida. And that is especially true on a weekend when both Auburn and Alabama are idle.

Looks like the configuration of top B1G teams - Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State - are dominating this year's ratings.

The issue Quo is on which network are they doing so well? So far it looks overwhelmingly like it is ESPN. I think they had 1 more game in the top 10 than did the SEC but that was in the first few weeks. Most of the more compelling SEC match ups happen after October.

Yes, my local sports talk station has an "LSU - Alabama kickoff countdown" clock they are announcing every 20 or so minutes, even though the game is like 9 days away, LOL.

But FWIW, I'm surprised Michigan/PSU trounced USC/Notre Dame so badly last week. To me, USC/ND was the more compelling matchup.

I think that tells us more about West Coast viewer interest and the network broadcasting the game than it does about whether or not it's the better match up. Compare that game to USC / UCLA and you'll have your answer.

ND was leading at halftime 28-0. Not many people were watching the 2nd half.
