Okay, let's suppose you're right that the multi-symbol theme is part of marketing to a younger generation and NIU has sort of been out ahead....where's the pay-off? Enrollment as a whole is down even with a slight increase in freshmen. Attendance has been on the decline, so I guess "being out ahead" under this new marketing effort can't over ride weeknight games in November.
So once again, if the traditional stuff is less and less important right now, let's really get "ahead" and be independent and innovative enough to embrace some traditional stuff, like using that unique font we paid.
As to dropping Huskies, please name one collegiate program that has done away with its nickname for their athletic teams?

Athletic departments don't target young people for marketing , they target people with money

Because so many 50 yr olds have a closet full of ncaa hoodies, hats, T-shirts and shorts(if you do you may want to re-evaluate) while 20 yr olds closets are just full of argyle sweaters and polos? Not to mention getting teen-aged kids into the NIU brand BEFORE they start making college choices. So many things in business are targeted at the younger portion of society to build brand loyalty for many years. Theyre not selling time-shares in Boca Raton to 60 year olds here.

MD is not wrong. Baby Boomers have time to spend as well as money (its a good market to target for events, tickets, etc). However, segmentation has a large role in how you sell and promote specific products.

Speaking in regards to these jersey's, I believe NIU missed the boat. They obviously wanted to do something for the players in an "important" game, but the jersey's do not align with the brand at all (I don't think they have any branding standards anyways or follow them if they do). They are cheap jersey's material wise. The multi-logo thing is nice, but they need to continue to push "NIU". It's larger than athletics, it's a university initiative.

Where do you all get the notion that young people don't care about tradition? I will say young people don't think twice about tradition when it isn't embraced by those that came before them and that's what happens at NIU.

Nothing wrong with branding us as NIU. They can plaster it everywhere. Many of us just don't like the uniform.

Yep.

MD is wrong. Because this isn't selling. It's branding. The new look isnt just bout getting money from baby boomers today. It's about creating an image for tomorrow.

Traditionally speaking, most younger people want to create their own traditions. Not follow the ones their parents do. There will always be some traditionilists, but every generation tends to move on from the affinities of the previous one.

They should wear these Jerseys on the road until they lose one on the road! Jerseys looked great on TV.

I was skeptical at first but they've grown on me. I really like the design of the numbers with the outline. Not sure how to describe it, but its got a bit of a retro vibe which I like.

They looked better in the actual game than in the original picture. Still don't care for them though.

We won so I don't want to complain. However, I do wonder about the branding. NIU or the old school NI would add to the look.

Usually don't like they newer stuff, namely the silver lettering crap ala Orange Bowl.Way too much going on with whole combo that game. I did like the helmets yesterday, but not sure if I would use regularly for brand recognition. Jerseys were fine. Liked the NIU on front. Guess it all looks good after a win lol.

I liked the whites I think they debuted in 2014 NW.

I think there needs to be more NIU identification on the uniform - like on the helmets. Don't like only the numbers on the helmet, and I have never been a fan of all whites. Looks like they're playing in their underwear.

Well, the Memorial Stadium PA announcer did call us "Northern Iowa" once...
