RE: Trevor Cobb
He must be in his early to mid 40s. I had graduated a year or two before he played at Rice, but I think everyone I talked to had a high opinion of him as a person. I moved right across from where he went to high school, and met several people in the area that shared that opinion. I hope he full recovers from this.

He apparently suffered a stroke several years ago as well (ref).

Trevor is 46. Will be 47 in November.

His Wikipedia page says he was born on November 20, 1970 ... which would make him 46 today.

So sad. I hope he recovers fully.

I remember seeing Trevor's play at Northwestern his junior year ('91). It was the season opener, and RME and I had driven a car up to drop off for a cousin Columbus, Ohio, and from there drove straightaway to Evanston for the game. Settled in our seats just a couple minutes after kickoff, in time to see Trevor take the handoff and run about 84 yards for the touchdown. He had a huge day that day and the Owls pummeled Northwestern, 36-7. Something of a high water mark. When else have we ever beaten a Big 10 team so badly? Trevor dominated the game that day. Great memory.

Trevor was a great player. I will never forget when we played UH at the dome in the game that started very late, and finished after midnight. Trevor was killing them, got hurt after midnight and the backup, who was decent, was just not Trevor. One more first down and we had the game, we punted and those bozos came back and won the game.

Do you remember Rice 50, Northwestern 6, at HRS in 1967?

That was my senior year in high school. Saw a couple of Rice home games that year, but missed Northwestern.

IIRC, the Northwestern Mildcats were one of the founding members of Steve Harvey's Bottom 10.

I was there. I remember watching the crew pin down the astroturf. The Astros had just finished playing and the seats had already been reconfigured for football by the time they let us in. That was a crushing loss. My buddy was a big UH fan. They were ranked about #9 in the country. Rice had them beat. I didn't know that Trevor Cobb was injured toward the end. That probably explains why it slipped away. Remember what he did to Baylor in Waco that year? They were #4 if I remember right.

That Baylor win was 1991. I didn't remember that UH game ('91 was a blowout loss at home), so I'm guessing 1990?

RE: Trevor Cobb
1990. Houston won 24-22. The Cougars finished the season 10-1, averaging over 46 points per game. That 24 point total tied for their lowest of the season (Texas 45, UH 24). Houston was serving yet another probation, so it couldn't go to a bowl game. They used their final regular season game against Arizona State, in Tokyo, as a kind of bowl game.

Rice finished that season 5-6, closing the year with a one-point loss to Baylor.
