Pappy's Predictions - #3
#3 - Arlington

You have to stick your neck out on one pick per year, and this is mine for this year.

POSITIVES: Hervey and Neal. Say it over and over again. They have been a dominant combo for the Mavericks for three seasons. And they are plenty good. Hervey averages 17 ppg and 8.5 rpg and is a threat inside and out. Neal might be the best point guard in the Belt. Put those two together on any team, and it will be very dangerous. They also have plenty of size on the roster.

NEGATIVES: Hervey and Neal are the only starters returning. Any stars have to have a supporting class, and will they have enough to win it all? Also missing is shooter Drew Charles. That is a lot of talent to replace.

I have become so accustomed to seeing "Hervey and Neal" and just assuming that they will be at the top of the SBC that it has become a habit. But I had to take a look at what the Mavs lost from last season, and it may be too much for them to stay on top.

Interesting pick. Going against the grain on this one. I am sure that UTA would be fine with a 3rd place finish and then winning the tournament. Finishing first hasn't worked so well for them.

My other thought is, if UTA is the 3rd best team in the conference, this is going to be one tough league this season.

I think the top half of the league will be very tough.
